I know that it has been dicussed many times that 2008 will be the year when BBC News will be revamped, but the BBC cannot seriously expect us to be happy with the current look that the entire BBC News output has...can they?

Are there any plans for a few changes on News 24 when Sky News revamps soon? - I know that News 24 tonight is new and that there have been one or two very minor tweaks to the studio, but what are the chances of getting new titles and astons?

We haven't had the current design 2 years yet, it's far from dated although I admit I thought it would be by now. With the 99-03 graphics set they were a little too tweak-happy which left the channel looking a little messy at times. If they do change anything I don't expect it to be as significant as the change from purple/cream to black/red.

Well, The current "look" is less than 2 years old and we've seen quite a few changes in that time! The titles have changed from the inital Orange/Black to the Red we have now. The ticker has been introduced permanetly and a number of aspects have been fiddled with.
There is a high probability that there'll be yet more changes, just look at the current changes. I dare say that by the time of the next big re-launch it won't look a patch on what it does now. It's just the nature of pres.

As for the 2008 rumours of the next big relaunch - Is that still the date, I had heard it had been pushed back slightly...

BBC News 24 looks fine at the moment (though I hate the huge headline strap!), but I think a few tweaks are needed to the main BBC News presentation packages -especially the astons, which are very bland and unimaginative!

The national studio is c r a p. Sorry. But it is.

Short of a major disaster at Broadcasting House there is no chance of any significant money being spent at TVC on the news room/set. Its all going to be ripped out when they move.
The contractors at Broadcasting Huse are behind but I understand there are contractor completion clauses for the various stages with stiff penalties imposed by the PFI.

Agreed. It is a studio that can be changed easily, just change the image on the screen but still at that its BAD!

What it needs is a bit of colour and character, something that can be easliy modified but yet looks very real.

What Im thinking of is, something like screens, desk, sofa area, more screens. Something that can be changed easily, so it can be adapoted for so many other shows.

Something like the old breakfast studio, it had a desk and sofa area, plus the side desk. It can work!

So true! And it's not that it's now dated - this studio has been crap from day one!

Its to cramped I mean even if ITV News's studio is half fake its still got room to move...and i hate when people say they cant afford chairs so they walk its complete tosh but they dont slate Sky News for them walking up and down the thing beside the newswall ?

If BBC News got a new studio it would be like the one before the current one but the floor would be white/gray with a red circle and then the white desk behind the presenters shot would be the same shot of the newsroom on BBC News 24 beside all that would be things like red walls and then at the right would be a sort of newswall

There is nothing wrong with the current BBC News astons and graphics, they are very bold and versatile. (I will probably be proved wrong by the new look Sky news!)

Although the titles do look very tired now, maybe they could change them to the style of News 24 Sunday and News 24 Tonight.

The current BBC National News graphics leave a lot to be desired. The graphics look plain and lack imagination and the studio, well that is just plain awful. When BBC World used the studio (there studio was under maintinence) they had a really nice backdrop, I wish they used that! The wood flooring looks like a posh appartment and does not suit a News Studio. I wish they would have a 'proper studio' with the news room in the background, maybe the BBC News 24 Newsroom from a different angle?

I think the new look in 2007-2012 will include more blue as it will 'balance' it out a bit.

I agree that the graphics and astons suit their purpose well

The only thing with having titles like these is the fact that they are much slower paced to the current titles, no doubt because they are programmes not a channel, and therefore would slow the pace down even more than the current headline bed from the, correct pace IMO, countdown.
