Or maybe Breakfast is part of the rebranding too?!

But Breakfast isn't involved in the move to N6, and doesn't use that much of the News24 branding really (except at weekends).

I would guess at 0500 with TWT? That's what happened last time.

No, the rebrand appeared on screen at 9am in 2003, which is when Breakfast (and the simulcast) used to end.

I think people are talking of the refresh rather than the relaunch when the tower was ditched, which did indeed start at 5am.

This time as it's a rebranding of the whole of BBC News, Breakfast is bound to be different too.

I managed to poke my head inside the new News 24 set yesterday. Apparently, it's much bigger than it was, although to me, it still looked tiny. Don't expect much on the studio front. It's pretty much exactly the same, only with a different orange-red background (not bad, but nothing compared to the real background of the current set). There's one round desk on the right and an open space on the left.

I don't expect many of you to approve.

I don't see 'how' it can be bigger given the contraints of N6. The barco screens surely can't be moved back because of the requirement for a fire escape route behind it, as well as maintenance access to the screens.

The background sounds like that for Breakfast, and doesn't seem to match the White/Red/Grey logo on the website.

I'm not questioning the truth of what you've seen, just whether it is the final version. Personally, I'm not expecting many changes to the set though, there must be plenty of life left in what is already in place.

One of the best ever news titles were mainly black - the SS 9 o'clock titles.

Apologies, it is indeed. I was simply pleased at the absence of black. Laughing

I don't see what's wrong with the red and black TBH. It's great IMO.

Also, I'm so pleased they've haven't just plumped for the easy option of that newsroom background they used before.

It wasn't the Breakfast background. It was a view of a newsroom without people, but much more orange and red than we're used to. I'm pretty sure it was abstract (in that the current view of London is abstract). They were testing the camera positions as I popped in.

Great in print, not on screen...

There is a long history of printed materials using red and black dyes. Red has many issues in use on screen, which is one reason people merge it with yellow so the orange breaks it up. Black with white text is good for TV's, as that contrast works better than black text on white for screen use, but mixing black and red has always felt heavy, and I welcome its exclusion from any new graphics for the Beeb.
