It looks rubbish. WHY are the two headers not integrated? I've got a massive waste of spae at the top of the page and a stupid search box.
There is no link to the weather.
The fonts are too large and skinny, everything is too light and this "room to breathe" nonsense means it looks like they don't have enough text to fill anything.
Horrible. Absolutely horrible.
Yeah, it's not good. There's far too much white space, it just looks like everything's been spread out rather than expanded. The header(s) are awful too.
There is a weather link though, it's inthe same place it always was
A bit disappointing really, considering the volume of resources put towards it - for one of the world's most popular news websites the whole thing comes accross as a bit half-baked.
Everything is far too spaced out - on a news and information site people want information, not white space. And although I understand the need for consistency the header looks ridiculous with the two logos, especially aligned as they are.
I think Benjy has it spot on, tidying the top up, still prominently displaying the BBC brand, and repositioning of the "watch now" button to above the left-hand tool bar.
There certainly is more room to breath, but it does look very washed out. I think we can still benefit from extra space with darker, possibly bolder, fonts.
Oh dear. The BBC don't seem very good at the moment at being able to distinguish what looks good from what looks bad. That 'BBC NEWS' directly below the huge BBC logo looks plain silly. Surely it would look better if they reversed the strap so that the picture could be under the BBC logo and BBC NEWS on the right hand side - and why is it in the box style? It would look a lot better if the BBC NEWS matched the logo they use everywhere else - horizontally. And no-one's thought to change this to match: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/bbc_parliament/default.stm
I think I stand alone here but I actually really like the new layout. The old one, in comparison, was far too bunched up in one corner and was surprisingly difficult to read compared to the new look. The extra space makes reading the text less tiring on the eyes and I love the fact that it is now centralised rather than being squashed on the left.
There are a few things which need tweaking, namely the two logos and the random search bar which should be on the right. However, aside from that, I think it looks fresh, modern and stylish.
Double masthead. Which marketing manager demanded that pointlessness then? The BBC News identity alone is more than enough to show off the fact we’re on a BBC page, we don’t need to see the black one as well. That’s got to change.
Switching between the homepage and the Entertainment page (surely all the sub main pages should have been converted for launch?) I certainly prefer the fact it’s got room to “breathe” but it seems a little
too
sparse at the minute.
Wish the related BBC sites would go back to having coloured co-ordinated section images too, Sport and Weather just get lost in amongst all the other text links.
No consistency between the “Live” and “Watch” buttons either.
And I’ll reserve judgement on the title sequence and hope the line about it looking better animated is true. Bit too cartoony for me at the moment.
However having just white and pale grey on the pages makes it look bare and empty.
And also the page is now centre-justified on my widescreen monitor so in fact in my perspective the pages actually look smaller in width with massive white bars at the sides so the previous design actually looked bigger than this one, even though the width has supposed to have increased.
The BBC don't fare in getting things right much lately!
Well first of all it's the BBC global masthead - so that has to stay for consistency across all the sites. The second is the BBC News branding logo, so that kind of has to stay too....
The last version had two BBC logos, remember? Just now it happens to be a bit bigger!

Not in this country it didn't - it had bbc.co.uk on the grey bar.
I agree they should have some sort of global masthead - just don't understand why it has to be so poorly designed.
It's too deep, the search box is too big, the 'Low Graphics | Accessibility Help' should be better aligned, and it has less functionality than the previous grey one.
