Woah easy tiger. You can't say LN is involved going on one post. From what I've heard, it's remaining in house. But if I'm wrong and LN are indeed working on this, I will be very happy.

From what I know, LN are already at work for the regions. Don't know if they're doing anything for the Nationals.

I've heard that some regions already have the mock of their titles... red and grey is what I've been told.

You are wrong - it is Lambie Nairn. Since he created the BBC News 1999 look I must say I'm rather optimistic.

I will definitely be looking forward to that then. It's scary to think it's almost 9 years since the 1999 relaunch. How time flies.

If Lambie Nairn is involved, then this could be potentially very important - as I know you have said in the past, and countless others including myself, the BBC News brand has slowly been allowed to degrade, with progressively worse titles, graphics and music (although the latest set is an improvement, it's still no patch on the original).

As the beeps have now become so synonymous with BBC News, I can't expect they'll be dropped. We may see several more iterations of them, so let's hope they're good.

It's all about visualising our journalism. Video and pictures are the biggest themes to emerge so far. With more and more people listening to the radio over the internet, people will be able to see and interact with our stories in a way they've never done before.

I think we're on the verge of radically changing the way Newsbeat does business. It's not about radio anymore

So Radio 1 Newsbeat is 'not about radio anymore'

I hope this won't mean an increase in telling you to visit the website meaning you get less out of just listening to a bulletin. There's already too much visual material on Radio 1 as it is in my opinion

I was under the impression that the nationals weren't changing that much.

I'm concerned, however, about the regional music.

David Lowe doesn't know anything about this, or at least that's what he said in his reply. Surely if they were to get *new* music to regions, he would have been asked by now?

Or perhaps they're going to use the same music as NWT?

This is indeed interesting and hopeful news, partially in relation to their re-appointment - at which I'm reservedly optimistic - but perhaps even moreso at how this is quite promising, re: the BBC / L-N working relationship.

Going back a while, I was under the impression their 'connection' with the BBC from the days of the main channels' branding had been all but completely severed - what with L-N for a time being completely absent from the agency roster when major new looks or projects came up. So that they are evidently working together again in this capacity is positive news in itself.

I'm curious as to why everyone seems to think this is a positive step.

In an age wher the BBC is short of cash and cutting swathes thru departments, to spend this amount on a rebrand so recently after the last refresh seems a little slack.

As I understand it, the rebrand is 'News-wide", so online, active, print and broadcast, so it makes sense to employ someone, who is a 'brand guru'. However, work on this must have been going on for some time, so why spend the money on the last refresh?

One of the reason, the BBC brand has been perceived to have dilluted over the years, is undoubtedly the fact that, when changing things internally, you a) Spend far less... b) have less time and c) dillute editorially, as no body from a branding background is in contol.

The fact remains, that every time LN have delivered in the past, the internal resources have then had to make it work for implementation - THEY are the ones who actually make these grand concepts work on air and their input in terms of fixing things which simply don't work, is vastly underrated.

Rant over...

Looking at the LN website it looks like they've been going downhill of late.

The examples of previous work includes the BBC Two and Three idents which are no longer used/soon to be binned.

There's also an example of their rebranding of WA Shearings. They came up with the fantastic idea of renaming them "Shearings Holidays" - wow!? - and the oh so imaginative use of postcards as the branding theme. They must have taken hours to think of that!

Admittedly Shearings is not as important a project as BBC News, so maybe a more junior member of the team did that rebrand, but it reflects on LN as a whole.

So Lambie-Nairn return to BBC News design... I'm not sure what to think

If you are listening Martin (Lambie-Nairn) BRING BACK THE NEWS 24 FLAGS, but modernise it a bit...

You've heard the same as me then. I've not seen them myself, but I was told it would be white rather than grey. And lots of white, more so than Breakfast.

With large areas of white I wish Barco the best of luck in getting the colour temperature uniform on the back projectors in N6 Smile

Of course nationals may be doing something different, I don't get much opportunity to talk to the guys over at TVC stage 6 very often.
