Simon McCoy made a slight cock up on last nights Late News, this is taken from Greg James on Radio 1, who pointed it out.

The music on the 1 titles is slightly different - a few beats in before the end of the build - and the breaking news graphics are a more translucent and a lot shinier. Far better than what's now onscreen.
Don't forget there was a music tweak a couple of months after the initial roll out of those titles - which reduced the opt-in buffer at the top of the One, Six and Ten titles and also massively reduced the length of the 2225 headline recap titles in the Ten. It also re-engineered the headline bed so that it didn't have as much of a beat in the bed, and instead had a musical note. (This was to stop the variable length bongs sounding off-bear - which they had done quite often since the fixed bongs were dropped)

Ahhhh! So they are similar!!!?
I wouldn't jump to any conclusions. It is a case of IF there is any similarity it is coincidental - not at a statement that there is any similarity.
For the record, I've not seen any of the new branding for months now, so it could have all changed completely since. However nothing jumped out and said BBC Arabic to me at the time.

By the way Points West were broadcasting from what they called 'a temporary studio' yesterday, although to me it just looked like the presenter standing in front of a red back ground... they said they'd be back in the normal studio on Monday but presumably this is something to do with the rebranding?

Might be, might not. If it isn't it could jst be electrical testing (if you've seen plugs in a hospital or school you'll see they all have stickers showing they have been tested).

Yes, I was just about to comment that they were using that today, I can't imagine it's to do with the rebrand, because if all regional news services are going to be re-done, surely wouldn't all of their studios be done, not just one

Hmmm... as an insider, I've seen the complete re-brand - and I'd describe it as anything but 'a minor tweak'. In my opinion, BBC News will look significantly different following the re-launch. True, the graphics are an evolution of a previous look - but I think they're fresh, energising and exciting. I can't wait to see them on screen.
Another thing here is that it looks more an evolution of the 1999 look, not the current one....
Cat's cradle anyone?

Quite possibly - there's also a video phone but it looks so similar to the mobile that people dont bother putting it up.

The straps look a lot more transparent. The name strap uses a bolder font, from what I can see. Also, the mobile phone icon for when they are talking to someone over the phone is different. There's also a satellite icon which I don't remember actually seeing on screen.

So, what, we're looking at something "evolved" from this?

(original image taken from here and super-quickly recoloured to white-grey & red rather than cream & orange-red, given that we've already been told that white-grey & red are going to be the dominant colours)
