I believe the new look has already premiered. Just look at BBC Arabic's look. My guess, that's the new corporate look.

No, no and thrice no. the Arabic service was always due to start before the new corporate look was even planned, so had branding delivered by BBC News, who won the bid to provide the channel identity.

Any similarity between the Arabic branding and the new BBC News branding is purely coincidental, as they were designed by seperate agencies.

BBC News have done a fantastic job of branding BBC Arabic Television, so I'm sure difficult questions will be asked if Lambie Nairn do not deliver branding for BBC News that is up to the standard set by BBC News for BBC Arabic.

Hmm... then I guess difficult questions are going to be asked. The irony is that any redeeming qualities in the new design are because of the hard work put in by the BBC News design team in implementing it.

Care to place bets on whether Lambie Nairn have bothered to make the globe turn the right way?

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions. It is a case of IF there is any similarity it is coincidental - not at a statement that there is any similarity.

It was merely a correction to the suggestion that the BBC Arabic look was a precursor to the Lambie Nairn branding for BBC News, which is not the case.

BBC Arabic is only obliquely a BBC News brand member and has sat outside the rebranding exercise.

With Lambie-Nairn on board, that at least means we can get our hopes up a bit. They gave us the original Cream and Red, the consistency across all Nations and Regions, and brought in David Lowe to do the beep musics.

It was Rob Shergold of BBC News who did the black and red ribbons look, which I disliked from day 1. http://www.shergolddesign.com/

So what do we know/assume...
Arrow New look titles and brand based on a grey, white, red palette
Arrow New look for the regions, bringing back consistency (possible new graphics hardware VizRT)
Arrow New look website with new branding
Arrow News 24 relocating to N6 with the National 1 and 10 O'Clock News
Arrow Six O'Clock News in TC7
Arrow Soon after the re-launch, BBC World move into News 24's Old Studio
Arrow BBC World's current set mothballed

Looking at the above list, it seems to be the same sort of thing happening, which took place when Lambie-Nairn did it in 1999, but we know that David Lowe's music is most probably staying (maybe remixed) and that the colour palette isn't as radically different, so don't expect massive F-Off changes, but expect a bit more from the previous Ribbon re-launches.

I'm expecting the smallest of small tweaks, mainly just to accommodate News 24 and the new studio arrangements.

As for the look - I'm really not that bothered. I don't think it'll be too major, and if it is it's unwarranted as the current look is not that old, and unlike at times in the past, BBC News isn't in desperate need of a revamp.

You'd be right not to get your hopes up too much.

Don't forget, as insiders said at the start of all this in January, major equipment upgrades had to be made - that's what will have taken the bulk of the time. I really wouldn't build your hopes up for something very radical and completely different as, from what I've heard, you may be disappointed.

Hmmm... as an insider, I've seen the complete re-brand - and I'd describe it as anything but 'a minor tweak'. In my opinion, BBC News will look significantly different following the re-launch. True, the graphics are an evolution of a previous look - but I think they're fresh, energising and exciting. I can't wait to see them on screen.

Is it safe to say that the swirls/ribbons have gone then or will they still be there?

I never actually said it was 'a minor tweak'. I don't know where you quoted that from. It isn't as radical a change as from the virtual era to cream/red look in 1999, though. It sits in between. That was my point.

AIUI most regions only have the Viz software not VizRT hardware at the moment. I'd doubt if the sub-regions like Cambs and Jersey have anything more than a basic Motto/Green or Clarity/Collage - if that.

At least Rob has a sense of humour - have you been to his 2008 Relaunch page?

Interesting. If you look at the 2007 redesign page, you'll notice a couple of differences between what's there, and what we eventually ended up with (and what we ended up with isn't as good!).

The music on the 1 titles is slightly different - a few beats in before the end of the build - and the breaking news graphics are a more translucent and a lot shinier. Far better than what's now onscreen.

What differences are there? As either i'm being think or I can't really see any.
The only difference I can see is the original clock that they used for the first week which was outside the safe area and then got changed.
