It's for reasons like that that I love the set being in the same place as the newsroom, nay, in the newsroom. Random things in the background, like cameramen bringing equipment across, people working at their computers, the general ambience of it all - it's going to be very different in N6.

Yes, I think that's the main reason that I would oppose the move. It adds to the effect and urgency of the channel, showing that it is very involved in the newsgathering.

The only way something even close could be achived would be through a live newsroom feed on the Barco screens in N6, but it won't be the same.

Thinking back to the ITV News Channel, it did seem a bit sterile in that big empty studio, especially when there was big news breaking, in comparison to the busy newsrooms on Sky and N24 it seemed too quiet. I think they tried to combat that by having someone sitting in the newsroom camera postion giving updates when there was a major story breaking.

Will be interesting to see how the atmosphere changes on News 24.

Well they should have a live feed from the newsroom on the screens of course!

Except that the newsroom is incredibly non-televisual.

The backdrop of the current News 24 set contains little of the real BBC Newsroom - it is mainly a corner of the gallery, the media management and live on-air production desks, and a few general desks. It looks good because it has a lot of "set" in it - including bits of neon, lightboxes, extra monitors in the gallery just for "show" etc. It would be difficult to make the "real" newsroom look this good - there simply isn't the space.

So why can't they use the current News 24 backdrop for the backdrop when they move to N6?

If this isn't practical, just a distant shot of the newsroom like that originally used in the cream and red era N6 - that looked OK.

Because that area will be home to BBC World - and the only way of achieving the current look "live" would be to leave the space as it is - which I'm sure BBC World won't...

They could pre-record it on HD Cameras (which would have to be used for the Barco screens) - but it would date pretty quickly.

I think you are misremembering how pants the grainy B&W (or very desaturated) mirror image newsroom actually looked, and even then it was small in frame on many shots...

No no no it looked very good. Far better than the CGI newsroom that followed it which looked really naff.
