I think it should be the same as it is now but with News 24 cutting out before the presenter says "on BBC ONE we join...".

i.e. The ten o'clock news hour continues on BBC NEWS 24 with more on the people who are angry about bananas.
(News 24 leave - sting is played on News 24 to go back to the studio).
Here on BBC ONE we join our regional news teams across the united kingdom. Goodbye!

I've searched for that banana story and come up with nothing. You wouldn't be using that as an improbable example, would you?

'Cos if you are... *shakes fist*

Wouldn't that be just as bad though - News 24 cutting out mid-sentence.

It would also be bad for BBC1 viewers too as they'd be a brief pause for News 24 to cut out - and that doesn't work, as has been seen already on Saturdays when the host of the BBC1 bulletin at lunchtime continues on News 24 after a brief pause.

oh my god. all they have to do is stop saying the word HERE and it's fine.

"BBC News 24 continues with the breaking news about bananas, and on BBC1 there's the news from your region."

Much simpler. It's one single word that is the problem.

When exactly can we expect the new look to come into effect? I remember hearing late March?

I think the BBC One bulletin should close while the final report continues on News 24.

BBC One: VT report stops. Presenter says 'Bye bye.'

BBC News 24: VT report seamlessly continues, with an extra bit of useless information like 'Did you know bananas are yellow? I didn't. I once slipped on a banana skin in the Television Centre car park and broke my neck', report stops. Presenter carries on and 24 viewers (literally) would never know that the presenter was saying goodbye to viewers on BBC One during the report.

Isn't the problem there that News 24 don't have the ability to play out two separate feeds to different channels.

One option for a sort of clean exit out of bulletins would be along the lines of...
"For viewers on BBC1 the next bulletin is at xx:xx, the news continues on News 24."
BBC One: Cut to weather
News 24: Play sting

By using a news sting it would remove the awkward pause which seems to occur when BBC One departs. I think I've seen this used a couple of times, though it's been a bit random as to when its been used.

No I think Hyma hit is spot on, just stop using the word here and the current wording would be fine. The problem is they make it look as though News 24 is opting in to BBC 1, regardless of the difference in the number of viewers its sloppy and makes News 24 look sloppy.

They've (just about) perfected the use of opts (in and out) on the overnight simulcasts with World for the last several years. In fact, some of those simulcasts have very clean junctions indeed.

So, I can't really see why it's so difficult to replicate the same thing on BBC1 and N24's scenario. The use of a well placed sting would seem the most obvious solution. It's hardly rocket science.

The biggest difference is that the World simulcast opt-points are at very fixed points in the half hour bulletin, and the same day-in, day-out and known a long time in advance.

The BBC One/News 24 junctions are different every weekend, and in some cases are only known accurately with about 30 seconds notice if the junction follows a live programme - like sport, entertainment shows etc.

In some circumstances in the past News have never had an accurate on-air time, as it has been routine to be handed to directly by a sports presenter, so the news gallery have been on standby and have taken their cue from the sports hand. This would be pretty near impossible to do neatly on News 24 unless you had a break filler type junction - which if you only have an approx (plus or minus 3 minutes...) time would not be a goer.
