As always, I love these examples you have conquered up Martin. When you look at the other sets you have referred to on previous pages you can see why a white backing may look modern and credible.
I think that some sort of map and landmark hybrid (such as North West Tonight) could work with a similar styled nations and regions set would work as well. This could go on the screen on the right (Where the '6' and '1' is) Would the '10' have a burgundy backdrop?
There is only one thing I do not like - and that is the usage of the two desks. Would it be viable to just have the long desk on the right and keep the left area for stand up reports and perhaps at the start of the programme? This may even work for News 24 as well?
I don't like that at all - very dark and depressing. Big blocks of flat dark colours - imagine being stuck in there for hours on end...
I see what you are saying in a way Jugalug, but do believe Martin's set would allow versatility as the white could be contrasted with a primary colour or a silvery grey contrast?
I've also thought about the individuality of the programmes more - why not have a yellow '1', a red '6' and a blue '10' ?

I agree.
A red, yellow and blue theme wouldn't work I don't think. It'd look childish. Red, green and purple are much better, although Newsnight already has purple.
In recent memory I can only recall BBC Scotland taking this option - though possibly Wales may have done occasionally.
In reality it happens so rarely it's probably barely worth thinking about - but on the other hand it does happen.
Certainly hasn't for Wales though for a long time as most it's sport is over on BBC2. I do recall in the past both the BBC and ITV airing separate "national" bulletins for Wales though - but that's like once in five years.
Reading this thread I just want to add some YouTube videos from the ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Company) with their news bulletins.
They renewed their Newsroom in April 2007, inpired by the BBC studios with the Barco LCDs.
Yep - the Austrians visited the BBC News Centre and had a good look at the studios and the programme production systems. At least imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...
I would wager that neither VRT nor ORF do a lot of studio interviews on their desks - they are very much for links rather than interviews (flat desks are not good for eyelines - you need curves).
I should also mention that the Barco screens used by the BBC (and ORF for that matter) aren't LCDs - they are DLPs.
Yes - and the desk doesn't really work for themthat brilliantly - even on a simple 1+1 on the example posted. The presenter and guest are so far away they may not even be on the same continent... Difficult to see how they'd cope with two equal presenters and a guest or two either side.
(That said - the way the current News 24 set is shot is not a shining example of good TV. Often the eyelines are awful...)
Don't know if this has been mentioned, but will Breakfast be part of this revamp?
I presume that BBC One News, and News 24 will relaunch on the same day, so if Breakfast were to change too, it would make sense that it would change on the same day.

Not sure on this as Breakfast will remain where it is now in TC7. Is a relaunch actually happening? I thought it was just a studio swap.
