http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_B8MDD1JuHk dreadfull thunderclaps seem to be constantly played to early/late with presenter talking over them now compared to what they used to be with the previous packages.
the thunderclaps sound like someone is sneezing(drather than a thunderclap.)
the titles are to smooth no climaxes or umph at all I think the 2007 set was cheap and lifeless-the opening titles across bbc news are aufull.
At least in 1999 and 2003 each channel had its own set of graphics.
Even though they have got a new haedline bed for the nationals it still dosent match/go with the titles like the 1999 and 2004 ones did Rolling Eyes

Moan Moan Moan. As for the BBC World thunder claps, they don't randomly play. They are timed and the presenter is the one responsible for being on time.

Also, go to school.

Some of them certainly a little too intense for a news channel, but it would be interesting to see if something in between could be created.

I can't remember who made this mock but I still have it saved on my hard drive. I hope the creator doesn't mind me uploading it again but I think this is what you mean...Mock 1999 vs 1993 BBC News Titles

Bit harsh, they only start teaching English at the age of 5, he'll get there eventually.

Looking at them videos, its really striking how good the 2000- era was.
The titles were fantastic, but even better was the music. It was so authoritive yet modern, now its all over-exaggerated and loud.

But the main thing that stands out from the branding then to now, is the set. BBC Worlds and News 24's, and the Nationals set was really inviting and warm and cosy, but it still had that news studio feel. It just looked so much better. Even though it wasn't in that video, I especially loved the BBC World set because of that desk with a chunk out of it, but still joined by the glass. It looked great!

I hope this rebranding is good. I don't mind the fact they're going all white. Look at VRT News, they have went for this style, but they've pulled it off greatly:

Something like that would look great, and it could most probably be pulled off in N6, in some sort of way.

That looks great. The left side of the studio does remind me a lot of liquid news, but that's no bad thing. Very well designed, not too crowded, but good. And all of that space around the desk makes the fabulously designed desk and the presenter the main focus.

Great set design in the UK seems to be missing in the world of news at the moment in my opinion. I know the idea is to make a basic set for N6, and TC7, but now the emphasis has to go on what appears on those screens to make the studio come to life.

I suppose the same could be said for ITV News that have proved what can be achieved for News At Ten, but not so much for the other bulletins.

I'm also still trying to get my head around the idea of five taking the news into a lifestyle environment. Should be interesting to see all results.

Another news studio similar to what Lambie-Nairn were talking about is TVE's Telediario, I'm not so keen on this one especially not the wall-ticker thing and the clock.
