No thanks.
That would be the best option, but I guess as BBC World is not strictly License Fee funded, they don't count in cost saving domestically.
World is not only exempt from the cuts, but has had a big investment in the channel from BBC America so it the only part of BBC News which is expanding.

World is not part of the savings directly - and is moving its studio, gallery and newsroom to improve its facilities and links with the domestic news operations, as well as facilitate upgrades and replacement of kit.
World would not accept ditching front half hour live news bulletins at 1300, 1800 and 2200 - that would not be acceptable for a global news channel with a reputation for breaking news coverage...

WORLD doesn't run as a 24/7 operation, and broadcasts other programmes more often than N24. For the first 30mins at 1, 6 and 10 they could run a recorded programme.
They could still make the savings envisaged by mothballing N9.

I actually quite like this hybrid desk in TC7. The only fault I can think of is that it's completely open at the rear and during sideshots you can see all the kit underneath.
The old desk in N6 had temporary panels used for most bulletins. They were removed for guests in the days when Breakfast used the desk. They seemed to be easily replaced to hide the modesty of the presenters.
Surely something similar could be provided for this desk?

Heres the hideous desk on Hardtalk!

N8 is not converted office space. News 24 has always been in that location since the opening of that part of the building. It was built with a news channel area in mind. I assume a more studio type setting was not incorporated to start with because nobody knew at the time if News 24 was going to last. Remember News 24 was the first digital channel from the BBC (even though it launched before digital tv did!) and at the time nobody knew if digital tv pick up would be on a large or small scale.

Most probably because N6 is a proper television studio rather than converted office space like N8 and N9.

I'm afraid it is - it isn't converted offices - but it is space designed for offices. It was architecturally designed to be office-grade space, and has office air con, office flooring, office services etc. It may not have been "final fixed" as office space (i.e. had desks installed) - though the flooring and ceiling pretty much were.

Yep - but not since the design of that part of the building... It was more a case of finding a bit of the building they could put News 24 in...

Nope - why do you think the BBC One studio isn't in the News Centre. It was because an assumption was made that news presentation was going to be entirely newsroom based... People got cold feet late on - when it was too late to include studios in the designs for the News Centre. They found space next door for the BBC One studio (even if it also isn't studio-friendly with a massive steel beam in EXACTLY the wrong place...)

Yep - but that doesn't stop it being built in converted office space...

DO
Ok, so it wasn't converted during the installation, but it was obviously designed as office space by the architects. Television studios do not have ceiling tiles with bits of scaff bar slung below them and cabling cabled tied up to it to keep it out of shot.
As converted office space used for broadcasting, it's not too bad. As a television studio, it sucks! The lighting's rubbish, and there's not enough space to get any decent camera angles.
Edit: Thank's noggin for confirming what I believed was the case.
