Because of the arrangement, this was the only way to give them equal space with the screens...

When the National's section isn't in use, News 24 would take that area, and when the Nationals are on air, unless there is breaking news, they could make use of the other end. The only change over needed, will be the backing images, and removal of one of the Desks, although having the graphic reports on the back wall while the presenter is sat at the desk could work...

Interesting. I do like the desk too, its something different, but not too different. Part of me actually likes the red on the walls.

What are we thinking that they will do with the background?
Film the newsroom in someway, add a camera somewhere, even if it's at the top of those stairs or off the balconey looking down, or create something in a similar vain to the BBC One bulletins?

Would they want to keep moving the desk in and out?
I had presumed that they would use the other side of the studio for the sport, and in depth interviews, etc.

Could it work sat around, or maybe perched on the desk? I know it wouldn't look as good, but it may work casually for presenting the sport.

Though Ideally it would be nice to have the space free so to do weather, and even stand up demonstrations or intros at the top of the hour.

Removing the Desk would be needed for Stand-Up screen reports, or for virtual 3D graphic reports.

Would there be room to remove it? How is it set up as the only thing that moved in and out of the studio was the sofa for Breakfast, and I presume that that is in parts that are carried in and fitted together. Is there room to remove it from the studio, or could it just be pushed out of shot?

During Breakfast and early News 24, the national's desk would be replaced with a Sofa and Coffee Table, News 24 would make use of it, and cover softer items in the early time, then for the 1 O'Clock the sofa will be replaced by the desk, and News 24's agenda will follow on from the 1 bulletin's without the sofa.

Will Breakfast be coming from TC8 again, or will it be staying in TC7, and again, would there be room and the staff to change around the studio?

I'm not sure they'll want to be moving this amount of furniture around while people are presenting a few metres away. For the same reason, I doubt N24 will be able to present a second bulletin as normal on the other side of the room while the nationals are going on. It's just going to be too noisy and take up too much space, in what is a tiny studio.

I would have a shared desk, in the corner with the longer side, and then have a stand up podium type thing (quite substantial one though) in the opposite corner. If N24 absolutely have to break away from the nationals, put them in a stand up position in the news room. Although, from what Noggin was saying earlier in the thread, it sounds like News24 will be loosing the ability to break away entirely.

Can we take it no work will happen on TC7? Because otherwise that would involve everything moving back to N6, including Breakfast which we were told onscreen was moving permanently to TC7. (And yes I know when the music stops Breakfast and the six will both 'sit' in TC7)

I like having sport/ business/ entertainment presented from the studio as it keeps everything moving smoothly, means you have the same look and feel and when there's breaking news in that sector (i.e. sport) the presenter will sometimes be giving their view over what's happening and helping the main presenters out.

I like martins idea there, but i'm not sure about an orange desk! What program did you use to create it? It gives them equal space but (as mentioned), where could stood presentation take place in your idea?

Not too keen on your idea though manxy. Seems a little too different.

The colours were just to tell the difference, not my idea for the look...

TC8 is the HD-capable studio where they make sitcoms and shows like Goldenballs. Don't think many news programmes have ever come from there, apart possibly from Breakfast with Frost or On The Record when their normal home was unavailable...

Really good designs - I'm just not keen on the whole idea of a rolling news channel coming from such a studio as N6 - like someone said earlier, the whole atmosphere of a busy, bustling newsroom will be lost - the reason the channel works so well now is it is in the heart of the newsroom itself (or am I wrong? Embarassed ) ...i.e. it's not in a "studio" as such, but is obviously separted by the railings and perspex.

Current News 24 is most definitely not in a studio - it's slap bang in the middle of an office (as is BBC World). That's why you get the background noise. I agree entirely that moving to N6 will ruin the atmosphere of the channel. Moreover, the combination of sharing a studio and simulcasting with the Nationals will severely hinder the rolling news element of News 24. That's why I mentioned the decline of N24 a few weeks ago. If it is going to be like that many people may decide to jump ship to other news channels.

Really though where are they going to go?

Sky News's future is far from certain, while there aren't going to be too many opportunities at CNN and Al Jazerra.

Even with redundancies looming, if people can cling on to their job at the BBC there really isn't going to be anywhere else which offers more job security.

And frankly, I'm sure many of those at News 24 would prefer the half an hour off for lunch than to be stuck talking about some irrelevant breaking news anyway - as after all, if it was relevant it would creep into the 1pm bulletin. If not, there is no harm in waiting half an hour to cover it - and IMO it's better to take some time to get the facts straight rather than switch to Sky News speculative mode!

If Sky News get thier graphics revamp due at more or less the same time right (and being Sky it could be complete genius or a total dog's dinner) then this could be the godsend they've been waiting for.
