N9 is supposedly being kept as an emergency backup.
Anyone know why was N9 was chosen to be mothballed as a spare and N8 (the current News 24 'studio') was chosen as the new home of World?
(I'm sure this has been ansered at som point in the last 200+ pages!)
Probably because N8 is bigger and BBC World (News)'s set is tiny.
N9 is a lot older than N8 - also it's not in the news centre and everyone is moving to be closer to everyone else in the multi media newsroom
I don't remember N6 being that close to the news centre either, the gallery was though.
How much work has it taken to soup up N6's gallery to be able to be on air 24/7? I remember it being a lot smaller than N8's... and that it backs onto a corridor
N6's gallery backs onto what I now presume is the hub of the multimedia newsroom?
It seemed a pretty big gallery - not the size of TC7 but big enough.
As for the studio, it's not that far away is it - I remember it being down a corridor and round the corner.

Plus it's quite damp to work there - ISTR noggin once said that N9 is dark and dirty.
Back to the topic in hand... can someone please shed some light as to what has cost £500,000?
As far as I can see, the titles are graphics that several members on this forum could knock up in a few days. There's nothing radical about the concept so its not as if the money is for creative ideas.
A forum member in his bedroom would probably have come up with identical sequences in a few days... if they knew the end result first!
The designers don't just come up with something and go 'that'll be £500,000 please'. They would have come up with several diffrent treatments (concepts) for the BBC to select and then it'll be developed to come up with the end product that is finally approved for air. There would certainly have been some research done, both in terms of content and audience perception
It's not a quick or cheap job - the wages of those involved won't be cheap.
Inspector, I'm sure someone at LN will hire you right away. You sure are trying your best to sell the idea that nonsense such as 'research into audience perception' is a very important process in creating news titles.
I'm aware it was probably not a quick or cheap job, but by the result, it should have been.
I'm sure executives have been wining and dining each other for months of in-depth meetings on shades of red, and the like, whilst thousands of BBC employees continue to fear for their jobs.
Come on, they've been (literally) spinning this globe idea with the african drums for 10 years now. Do you honestly think any more than 10% of the audience will notice these changes?
Has LN actually come up with anything fresh and innovative since 1998?
And why does the largest broadcasting organisation in the world actually need to pay an outside company to come up with an idea?
Utter nonsense, and its about time someone realised that news can be equally as effective and authoritive in a plain studio with titles created by the actual programme producers.
Need proof that they are capable? Look at BBC Arabic.
Reporting Scotland came from CSO tonight. ( Very close up shot of presenter too! ). Not opening or closing stings / titles. Maybe they have already been ceremonisouly burned
Already see the BBC Globe in the top left, can't wait!
Maybe I'm just being ignorant or your eyesight is amazing - I can't see it. But why does the local news have to use the same sofas as Newsround? It looks painful to sit on...

Just seen Look East and they have a New Desk and a new part to the floor (very similar to the picture above).
Bilky, you can just see the edge of the new globe logo at the top of the wall on the far left hand side. However, it wasn't visible on the opening shot of EMT tonight. There also doesn't seem to be any visible changes to the Spotlight set in Plymouth either:

Well of course it is... what happens if the public don't lke the end result... or what the designers and managerment have missed was that something in it which resembles a big purple cock!?
In terms of semiotics you can go very wrong indeed and be stuck with something dreadful for 5 years. The London 2012 logo for example... would they have gone with the 'Lisa Simpson giving head' idea if their focus group reaction had been the same as the publics?

£500,000 is nothing in TV terms. I doubt much 'wining and dining' has gone on for that money.

I suspect that re-designing the whole fo BBC News would have been a tall order for the regular designers who are occupied with day to day programmes!
The Arabic titles are quite nice but it's obvious that not a great deal of thought has gone into them, they're certainly not classics.
