But from next Wednesday,
when Huw Edwards cross promotes from the Ten, it will be: ‘You can get more on this over on the BBC News Channel’. On air, News 24 will just become ‘BBC News’.
This is an interesting comparison, they cut at exactly the same time in places and the end form up looks similar on both for a while.
Interesting comparison - and that "BBC NEWS" box looks worse every time I see it.
The new look may arguably look fresher and more modern - but is it appropriate for those bad news days. The black and red may be a bit dark, but even with the worst of headlines the titles were never inappropriate.
The new look will be something special (I said it before). However I will not stand the dropping of the '24'. It'll be a great new look but personally I hope the 24'less BBC News channel blows up in the BBC's faces. And then will have to change back.

I'm quite concerned about that myself. If a major public figured died or there was a disaster that the whole headlines sequence were devoted to the tempo of the titles would clash quite badly with the somber mood.

Your siggys quite right, Brekkie.
I've got a feeling they will have to revert back to "BBC News 24" in the coming weeks. As previously mentioned, it has become such an iconic brand - well known and trusted. I imagine it may be hard for the presenters to get out of the "News 24" mindset. Imagine how many times the likes of Joanna Gosling, Maxine Mawhinney and Chris Eakin have said "coming up on News 24" or "you're watching BBC News 24" over the past 10 or so years and to suddenly be forced to stop may be difficult resulting in an unwanted mismash of branding.
Some presenters even refer to the channel as simply "24" (which, I admit perhaps isn't that appropriate), showing just how recognisable the brand has become over the past 10 years.

I wouldn't go quite that far. The 2003 titles (top-right in Bail's video) starting on a big explosion? I remember watching the 1 O'Clock News on the day of the London Bombings thinking "ah, the irony".
But here's the thing though, BBC News Channel UK will no longer be the channel in charge 24 hours a day, from now on BBC World News will take the overnights.

Recently it never was 24 hours a day because of Breakfast (which is just like News 24 only with horrible orange titles which aren't needed).
This new look is really nice compared with the dull unimaginative red and black Ammadillo Ears titles. I can't wait for it to appear onscreen.
