They would never be "sent" desks or sofas... Every region has different requirements - both in practical terms (how big is the studio, what is the smallest door any bit of set has to fit through, how do you light your studio etc.) and production terms (how many presenters, how many areas, how do you use your set etc.) - so any new set would always (hopefully) be more a case of "what do you need and how can we make it fit the look?", not "Here's a sofa and desk - put it on screen next Monday please..."

The Six update was the exception - as it went out in England only. That bulletin had to run to exact time - as it was part of a Nations opt.
The One, Six and Ten are expected to run to time - but there isn't a gallery PA (and hasn't been since 1998ish) to keep the programme exactly on time, and the producers and directors usually manage to keep it within 5 seconds or so on a good day...

Some regions have oval desks, some have round desks, some have the original desks
I wasnt saying that they should all be the same size etc but at least there could be some consistency in shape and colour

There is a woman or it could have just been automatic voice but there is a voice which automatically plays around 30-40 seconds before broadcast alongside the director relaying that infomation into the newsreaders ear to ensure the program runs directly on the hour.

Still says BBC News 24 on the dog.....spose it wont be for too much longer though, just a few more minutes, in a way i suppose it was coming, when it launched in 1997 it was a million miles away from the rest of the BBC News output but in the last 10 years or so its become closer and closer and now eventually its resulted in this.
BBC News 24 - rest in peace!

Quite impressive. Not quite the same, but if anybody should want to see how gallery timings can fall apart look at sky at xx:54. Even on a slow news day, when they are simply coming out of a report, they seem to be able to cock it up. Giving the presenter as long as a minute or as little as a quick 'more news next' to finish on.
I suspect though that the timings of the ad breaks in the back half hours have a bearing on this.
Isn't tv magic?

Yes, I sat in the gallery for a Six O'Clock News in 2004 and it was Fiona Bruce's voice then, IIRC. If you look at my clip of BBC News Behind the Scenes on YouTube, you can hear her voice at 04:30: click
