Now I look at it: in terms of the animation, the pan out of the globe from the left - at 0:07 - feels as if that should be the shot of natural conclusion, instead of the actual angle on which it settles.

I completley agree. The more I look at it the more it fits with the music too (as we have at the moment!).

And - just a couple of days after first seeing it - the way the final shot abruptly ends rather than smoooooothly concludes is irritating me.
Man alive, I need to get out more.

The abruptness doesn't bother me much as it fits with the music. And that shot at 00:07 does look like it could be a stand-alone titling shot. Maybe thats what we should expect from the programme titles, or even a similar pan out for the BBC World News channel ident.

I'm not sure, I think if you rebrand it should be a major change rather than a tweak. I suppose they wanted it to be familiar to viewers but it's a wasted opportunity in my book.

Well they are making Major changes in terms of merging departments, studio upgrades, channels being renamed, and so they took the opportunity to regroup the disparate looks of BBC News, back into one recognisable brand. And just so happened to bring them back together with a modernised version of the 1999 look which has been a success story, and asked the original company to be responsible for it again, rather than do it in-house like in previous years.

He was talking about the graphics, not the behind the scenes changes.

Yes overall BBC News might be changing but onscreen the rebrand isn't a major change like we had with the virtual reality set or when we got this major revamp in the early 80's

I'd hardly call even the graphical elements just a 'tweak'. It is nothing like the current titles and it's pretty different to Lambie-Nairn's 1999/2000 stuff for BBC News. He's developed what was an excellent brand. If you've got something that good, why change it just for the sake of it? Loads of people here slate the china red and cream look but I suspect it is just because they didn't see it onscreen at the time. I can tell you that on this very forum in 2001, it was very highly regarded. Apart from anything else, all we've seen is the titles. No other graphics have been seen yet so I think people are being a bit quick to judge, to be honest.

Not noticed it before, but the new titles could easily be seen as an evolution of those ones! Quite nice really.

From the start of my negative opinion, I made it clear that I was basing it on what I'd seen so far, so in that respect, it's not too early. I'd be more than happy to change my opinion on Monday.

I quite like both sets of titles but they feel like an evolution rather than a revamp. I never had a problem with the red but preferred the titles they had before these ones.

Are the Regions being sent any matching Desks or Sofa etc ?
