So any idea for the names of the programmes with '24' in the titles? What about these...

News 24 Tonight - BBC News Tonight
Entertainment 24 - BBC Entertainment News
Film 24 - BBC Film News
E24 - scrapped as it's terrible!

News 24 Tonight - BBC Evening News
Entertainment 24 - The Entertainment Show
Film 24 - The Film Show
E24 - ditto

Perhaps?

Show? It's a news channel, not Saturday night BBC One. I hate the word 'show' anyway. Prefer 'programme'.

What, no BBC News branding! It's an intriguing point raised though, just shows how versatile the 24 brand was and what a ludicrous decision it is to dispose of it.

I still don't understand the dropping of News 24.

Neither do I. After all, it was BBC News 24. I don't see why adding '24' on caused so much bother. If they were concerned about people just saying 'News 24', surely they could just have insisted that every BBC presenter/reporter on every outlet called it 'BBC News 24'. That would have been easier than this whole BBC News/BBC News Channel thing. As I said, it is just change for the sake of it.

I think it shows how strong the News 24 brand is that you can drop the 'BBC' and people know exactly what you're talking about.

Yep. In some ways, they've made it worse. I often hear people say "I saw such and such on News 24 last night...". What are they going to say now? BBC News? BBC News Channel? My guess is they'll continue to call it 'News 24', so the BBC have most likely shot themselves in the foot by axing it rather than consolidating it.

I think that's as good an estimation as we'll get.

By contrast, "BBC Entertainment Programme" doesn't flow as well as a name despite having a suitable tone, and "BBC Entertainment Show" has less authority and probably the wrong tone - so, since i can't think of a better alternative, I wouldn't be surprised if what you've mentioned ends up being used.

News 24 Sunday to become 'BBC News Sunday with Peter Sissions' maybe?

I'm going to have some fun picking out all the place names in all the titles!

Does anyone think that Sky News will try & capitalise on the BBC dropping "News 24" and re-name their output under "Sky News 24"?

After all, they were quick to pick up the "News at Ten" title when ITV News dispensed with it

That just sounds awful... it'll never happen.

I'm not sure which sounds worse, Sky News 24 or BBC News Channel.
There's only one way to find out...
