On the second wide shot used just a moment ago, the desk looked fine. But at the start of the programme, it looked terrible. I think that was just down to the fact that the red light doesn't continue around the side of the desk.

However! The lighting looks fantastic, and the set looks much more authoritive and 'newsy' than N6. I actually think the black floor suits the set better.

Just to add, Breakfast looked nice today, especially with the sofa on the baking tray, it looked more set-up rather than the sofa just being slumped on the floor.

And you thought the weather looked bad in N6...

Alex looks a lot closer to George than they do in N6. Is that because the baking trays are different sizes, because Newsround's sofa is still in there, or a mixture?

If you look in the right hand side of that picture, I'm sure you can see a corner of the other baking tray (the sofa for Newsnight etc) so I would presume thats why Alex is closer to George, and yes the baking tray does look a lot bigger than N6's.

Could they not have used the working lunch desk which is the same model as N6s?
Would seem a better thing to do.

I would assume it is for continuity - at least all of BBC News from that studio would be using that desk, as we expect then 10 to require some hot seating with Newsnight in the studio.

The only issue I can see is the use of the big board - with George seated it makes him look tiny! Wonder why they're not using the crane for some more dynamic cues...

Are the 'baking trays' bigger in TC7 than N6 or is TC7 just a bigger studio?

I think both. TC7 is substantially bigger than N6, so I would imagine they can afford bigger baking trays too.

Does N6 only have one baking tray compared to TC7's two?

Can you stop quoting big images to post a few words? You seem to do it fairly regularly. It's quite annoying.

The desk looks quite bad IMO, but useful for the BBC to save changing it around every few minutes. The red light it interesting, but I'm not too keen.

The weather looks dreadful though.

That is a new desk that is a permanent fixture. So it will be used by Breakfast (if they ever decide to use a desk again), Working Lunch, Six, Ten and Newsnight, as well as HardTalk recordings that come from TC7. The front colour can be changed to suit each programmes requirements.

Oh dear. I much preferred the old one - it would surely only take a bit of modification to put changeable lighting in?

Nothing to do with lighting. Its SIZE. The new desk is a halfway house between the Working Lunch desk and the Newsnight desk - allows us to use it for Single and Double Presentation (without 'dwarfing the presenters) and allows us to get all the guests we need to get round it for Newsnight discussions.
