Since everything and anything to do with BBC News in the UK will now have "BBC News" in it, will they start directing people to bbcnews.com instead of bbc.co.uk/news?

Surely bbcnews.co.uk - we're not in the US!

.com sounds better.

Strangely, http://bbcnews.com redirects to the BBC News homepage, but http://bbcneews.co.uk redirects to a message telling you to go to:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/'service or programme title'

You mean bbcnews.co.uk right?

The BBC has registered a number of domain names related to programmes, channels or services which are not currently used. They may be in the future, but in the interim it prevents others doing so and squatting on them exploiting the brand or passing themselves off as the BBC. If you happen to find one of these registrations you will get sent to the 'service or programme title' page you mentioned.

Joanna in BBC World's studio from 9:30 now.
She gave the "headlines from around the world" and then handed to Tasmin for entertainment news (who's in the same studio.)

I mentioned that a few posts ago.

Well I presume it is the BBC World ticker, the reason being it has included currencies.

I don't notice any difference.

Normally if they use BBC World's ticker it says "Contact Us" rather than "Interactive" on the sub heading that fades up.

if it was a case of decamping for rebuild of studio shorly they would wait 30 mins and change studios during the 10!

unless the 10 is coming from news 24 studio tonight and they are having 30 mins to prepare.

time will no doubt tell

bbcnews.com detects where the visitor orginates from and forwards you to an appropriate version of the site (UK or ad supported). I presume as bbcnews.co.uk has never been promoted the URL is just set up to protect the BBC's rights. I think you will find in the past that certain other URL's would deliver similar results.

There are actually 4 versions of the site, and it does not matter whether you access bbcnews.com or news.bbc.co.uk to reach them. By default a UK user will get sent to the UK facing site (UKFS) but may choose to read the international version (International facing site - IFS) by selecting an option on the index page. This then gets stored in a cookie for future visits. Whether you view UKFS or IFS in the UK you should never see adverts on either site.

If your IP address is outside the UK (or the Quova database thinks you are) you will get directed to the IFS by default with the option to make UKFS your default instead. The UKFS or IFS you are served may or may not be the versions with adverts, depending on whether or not you are in a terratory that BBC Worldwide are selling advertising space in.

Hope that makes things clearer.

Yes but in the past when they've had to run the 10pm News from the News 24 studio - N8- they haven't decamped News 24 to N9. Seems strange...
