Identical music across Nationals, News 24 and World from what I've been told.

What about BBC Worlds ident? will it keep its signature tune? Hope so.

The channel stuff (ids, countdown) will keep World's signature notes/FXs but the news stuff will be identical.

Does this include the beds at the TOTH? Will they change at all for the new look, too?

Since everything and anything to do with BBC News in the UK will now have "BBC News" in it, will they start directing people to bbcnews.com instead of bbc.co.uk/news?

Surely bbcnews.co.uk - we're not in the US!

.com sounds better.

Strangely, http://bbcnews.com redirects to the BBC News homepage, but http://bbcnews.co.uk redirects to a message telling you to go to:

I wouldn't think the BBC would want to change any websites from their "proper" URLs in the UK. Having said that, I still don't get why bbc.co.uk/news redirects to news.bbc.co.uk.

I'm sure theres a technical reason but it's always bugged me.

Very simple answer is that the news website has different servers and a different publishing system to the rest of the BBC. Having two seperate domain names is the very easy way to make sure the right requests so to the right servers without having to inspect every one for both sites - which would slow everything down.

Other channels have adopted the split for other reasons. For example Five split theirs when the news website was outsourced to a third party. It then became much easier to make the external site look part of five than messing about with redirects, frames and/or proxy rewrites.

Is this the first time they've launched EVERYTHING at the same time? National, World and Regions?

The rebranding of News 24 to the BBC News Channel starts from the end of the 10 O'Clock News on Wednesday, 16th April, followed by a complete rebrand of all BBC News outlets - including regional TV - on the 21st.

So it seems like they're easing in the name.

And perhaps they'll be in N6 from Wednesday - or at least just 10.30 - 1am each night from Wednesday. Would make sense to 'try it out' on air when the least people are watching?

Doubt it. They wouldn't try something on air that's like to cock-up and make them look like right fools. They'll be piloting like crazy in N6 at the moment.

Agreed - I always felt the music for BBC Wales Today was far better than that for BBC Reporting Scotland back in 1999.

So why will the Wales music be different from the other nations on Monday?

Just spotted that News 24 is broadcasting from BBC World's studio/set at the moment.

Perhaps they are starting the N8 set rebuild?

All that I've heard is that Nationals, News 24 and World's music will be identical. Not sure how far to take that, though.

bbcnews.com detects where the visitor orginates from and forwards you to an appropriate version of the site (UK or ad supported). I presume as bbcnews.co.uk has never been promoted the URL is just set up to protect the BBC's rights. I think you will find in the past that certain other URL's would deliver similar results.

Joanna in BBC World's studio from 9:30 now.
She gave the "headlines from around the world" and then handed to Tasmin for entertainment news (who's in the same studio.)

I'm going to miss the 'thump' in the music just before the screen flashes white prior to the Elvis formation on the current opening sequence. I love that bit Sad

I mentioned that a few posts ago.

Maybe they are starting the modifications to N8 tomorrow for BBC World to move in to complete the relaunch maybe... I don't know.

It would mean that BBC World would have to come from a CSO studio or TC7. Confused

I could be talking bananas though lol.

Up until a few weeks ago BBC World always referred us to bbcnews.com, now bbc.com/news

bbcnews.com is better imo
