Renaming the BBC Ten O'Clock News to BBC News at Ten seems to be just a pathetic reaction to News at Ten, and dropping such a long established name too.

Lambie Nairn did that last time too with all of the news programmes branded BBC News at X but it didn't really catch on. Don't think it can really be viewed as a pathetic reaction to ITV, Andrew, as much as you would like to.

The regions part is a bit underwelming to me. Aren't we fed up of the same themes being remixed a 100 times, can't we have something new

I wonder will presenters on News 24 now refer to just 'the news channel', in the same way as presenters on the ITV News Channel often did

That's not the case at all. The whole idea behind this rebrand at the BBC is to make the BBC News brand more clear. Now that broadcast news is so diverse, they want everyone to realise they are watching BBC News. That's why they've changed the names.

For the record, they aren't going to call it the BBC News Channel actually on the channel - at least from what I've heard. They're going to refer to it as 'BBC News'. It's only in BBC One promos that they'll call it the BBC News Channel.

If anything, and as Stu pointed out earlier, the true test of a reaction might be whether or not "ITV News at Ten" suddenly pops out in response to its now two competitors for the "at Ten" moniker.

What about the logo on the Freeview website, and on those freeview and sky leaflets? BBC News or BBC News Channel

It didn't catch on because the BBC gave up and starting referring to the bulletins as the X O'Clock News again. The only presenter I can remember who kept it up was Anna Ford. She always started the One with "Good afternoon and welcome to the BBC News at One O'Clock."

I doubt it, I imagine they'll be plugging "BBC News" as much as possible, otherwise it rather defeats the object.

Yeah the only mention of 'Channel' being by presenters on the 1,6,10 network programmes. On the channel itself it will just be 'BBC News'.

I suspect it will just be BBC News. I certainly don't expect the channel's titles to be branded 'BBC News Channel'.

Loving the regionals - the beats at the end of music with the title swooping in does it for me! Very Happy

Good point. So far they've only branded it as News at Ten. If they are going to change, I'd prefer a return of ITN News at Ten as opposed to ITV News at Ten, though I doubt that will happen somehow.

Good question.

I'd say simply BBC NEWS. Because if the BBC One, Two, Three, Four, CBBC etc. logos are along side it then it would be pretty obvious that BBC News means the rolling news channel.

Since everything and anything to do with BBC News in the UK will now have "BBC News" in it, will they start directing people to bbcnews.com instead of bbc.co.uk/news?

I seem to remember Mark Byford specifically mentioning "CNN.com" as an example of integrated branding that BBC News should aspire to in his interview with the Independent the other day...

Here's the quote -

independent.co.uk posted:
He spins round to face his TV sets. "Look! CNN, Sky, that's it!' he says, snapping his fingers as he barks out the brand name of each rival, "Sky News, CNN.com...that's it. But with the BBC we've got News 24, we've got the Ten O'Clock News, we've got so and so. No! It's all part of one connection which is the BBC News family."

Will they keep the same text number... 61124?

Seems that will be out of date now as well?
