I'd very much doubt that. News didn't figure in the proposed schedules for BBC HD for late 2008. Also, it'd probably undo all the hard work done to make those Barco screens look better!
I'd expect it to be something they'd have in mind for Broadcasting House.

Was any of the work done on N6 to give it HD capability?

Exactly. Not quite the same, but the Sky News Centre is HD ready, but if they think they're gonna be able to broadcast that newswall in HD, they've got another think coming - especially on the close ups. Mind you, that will serve them right for using a backdrop at such low resolution that you have to shoot it from a way away.

Then technically speaking, its not HD ready? Those screens on Sky are poor quality at any distance.

Everyone here was moaning about News 24 moving out of a real newsroom into a studio with a fake newsroom backdrop, but just looking at Sky News now they're not far off themselves.
Yes they are in a real newsroom which is large, but most of the shots only show the fake newsroom backdrop. You very rarely see a real person in the background. At least in N8 you saw real people quite often.
Sky News staff seem to prefer working in the newsroom round the corner which is out of shot most of the time.

I was just wondering if they would take this chance to upgrade the studio itself to make it future-proof.

I can't see BBC News going HD anytime soon, even come the move to Broadcasting House in 4/5 years time...
Its not just studios, its editing equipment, satellite bandwidth, Bureaux equipment, worldwide studios, etc.

By the time it will be needed in HD, they will be in Broadcasting House. Maybe. So a pointless change really.

Just looking at the East Midlands Today webcam, and it shows a different sofa in the studio at the moment. Possibly a sign of a much needed tweak on Monday...

Also, the two panels two the right of the "window" are to change to white and look out for things we haven't seen on the network news since 2002...
