Jugalug mentioned it. From what I can gather, the lighting will change so gradually throughout the day that you won't even notice it. Unless you tune in to the News channel at say 10am and again at 7pm, obviously.

I think it looks a bit grim, personally. I've always hated the black and red colour scheme and thought we'd seen the last of it - alas not.

Yes, it's a considerable contrast between the two elements (is this what was being referred to when L-N mentioned greater use of white space?); I can't tell whether the combination will succeed; haven't really seen enough to draw any solid conclusions. On its own merits however, this very much gets the thumbs up here.
While it's by no means necessary, I like this (TBC?) idea of a lighter-shaded newsroom for the day, with a move to something suitably dark by the time we hit the Ten - this change through the hours is what the stills initially suggested in my mind, but as I say, with or without such a feature we are still left with something solid.

Looks nice, but seems a bit dark for such bright, white titles.

Kind of makes me wonder if the Ten O'Clock titles should be darker then the others though, rather then the bright white they've been seen to be in the paper articles. Nonetheless, if they can pull off a subtle changing lighting setup as the day progresses it will look good on screen.

Anyway, I get the feeling there will be a sort of overlap period towards the end of this week, with use of 'News 24' being gradually phased out in favour of 'The BBC News Channel' a few days before the rebrand proper.
It might be confusing for people who then turn over to find News 24 instead. Rather, they might stop mentioning it for this week to phase-out the name.
According to what I've read, it will be refered to as the BBC News Channel as of this Wednesday. Don't watch BBC World myself, but this is further supported by The Eye's observation.
