Laimbie Nairn's original News 24 design in 1999 was by far the worst out of all the BBC News outlets.

However, if you didn't realise that was an L-N design, then I'll forgive you... Laughing

I just can't understand why they are spending loads of money on N6, when they move out of TV Centre in 2011 and then TV Centre will probably be set for being demolished.

Although, I am glad News 24 are moving out of their ropey set - I will miss the Live Newsroom Feel. Especially watching people in groups walking past who are obviously on tours sometimes. Smile

I really hope they tidy up their presentation standards that have appeared to be slipping over the last few months or so and that the new BBC News Channel will work a little slicker.

They're moving out in 2011 at the earliest. It's more likely to be 2012 at the moment, and they haven't started building yet.

Most of the kit in N6 is 10 years old, and is being replaced as a mid life upgrade to allow News Channel to share the space. Overall they will be cutting costs as they will only be using three studios not four.

I'm hating these references to "News channel" already - it really does prove how **** it sounds, and how great a brand News 24 is.

I know! Every time I see 'News Channel' I instantly think of the ITN/ITV News Channel rather than News 24!

Interview with Mark Byford in The Independent - http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/bbc-mark-ii-mr-byford-gives-the-corporations-journalism-a-makeover-808592.html

The Independent posted:

Apparently only 12 per cent of viewers of BBC regional shows recognise that they form part of the corporation's news output, so those programmes will carry the "BBC News" tag as well, alongside new idents featuring local landmarks such as, Antony Gormley's Angel for 'Look North', or HMS Victory for 'South Today'.

He spins round to face his TV sets. "Look! CNN, Sky, that's it!' he says, snapping his fingers as he barks out the brand name of each rival, "Sky News, CNN.com...that's it. But with the BBC we've got News 24, we've got the Ten O'Clock News, we've got so and so. No! It's all part of one connection which is the BBC News family."

But this new look, to be unveiled on 21 April, is a subtle exercise, retaining what Lambie-Nairn sees as the "existing brand assets" of the logo in its Gill Sans typeface, the colour red, the globe, and David Lowe's pulsating theme tune.

I don't understand why News 24 of all channels are moving to N6, how can they emulate a live newsroom within there

Perhaps they don't want to emulate a newsroom feel, it's not compulsary!

Why feature a newsroom as a backdrop and just keep the cityscape then?

No, they weren't actually.

The Flags were and still are, bold, fresh, clean and DIFFERENT, which when looking at the competition, is surely a good thing.

Still they wouldn't work so well today on mobile phones, online with you-tube style compression artefacts, but on TV they could still look good, and still no-one has done anything like it.

Spot on it will ALWAYS be BBC News 24 - it does exactly what is says on the tin. I will never refer to it as the BBC News Channel!
