Cos the video countdowns date quickly

What more quickly than looking at something which is exactly the same throughout apart from the number changing?

look rubbish

Beg to differ - and they were put together by some award winning film bloke.

Yes they do, they have the bloody correspondents and presenters on! The old countdown only represented the titles which are on screen for seconds every hour.

Well I disagree of course. And I think I suggested they could show details overlayed on the countdown graphic. Information about the website, the mobile details, interactive etc

Me too. I'd prefer a switch back to a graphic countdown but more up to date than previous versions. Or as a compromise they could introduce something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=at3Htlzvx8E, which is a hybrid of the old and new. I have grown tired of the current countdown images even if they do change them every few months.

Id like to get some information during the countdown, like this one

^^ That one is the best IMO, just needs to be modernised a bit

Even the one with the more abstract VT was better, as it was still graphic in nature.

It does seem to be only slightly different if honest and seems the same as 1999. I presume the beeps will remain in place as the theme tune?

Why bother change it when you are just tweaking it a tiny bit...I feel a bit let down Sad

I don't see why, they are totally uniforming the output, wth brand new stuff for the regions and a brand new studio!

I'm actually in suspense now we have seen a few leaks and the Times article. It doesn't help having insiders talking about it!!!!

The various title sequences may differ from each other and end on the same endboard. The 1999 titles did!

Also, the whole of News 24 is changing...

Yeah but there does not seem to be a change from 1999 which is not that riveting. There will be a new look for many regions but by the looks of it - Reporting Scotland will only be tweaked...as there has been no real change to our titles since 1999.

They will be tweaking the nationals set with a new desk and backdrop but there does not seem to be a big change.

If they remain with the beeps era then that is not a real change either.

How long did the virtual era last by the way?

April 1993 - May 1999 IIRC - so 6 years

Thanks Nat - so as it is - the beeps era has been a bit longer then. I am aware that they are cost cutting but with all this hype and chatter I was perhaps expecting more. If they are skint why not wait and do a decent revamp? I do not follow.
