Agreed. The 1999 red countdown was fantistic - such amazing detail and then the BBC World 2002 one was even better. And as you said they could display information or even headlines with video too like Sky News did for a while. That would suit BBC World even more than News 24. More interesting than the same images over and over again even if there were four versions of the countdown.

Ah yes, those were the days...

So nothing we don't know already, unfortunatley - other than details of personal life of a "glamorous Australian blonde" - Rolling Eyes the mind boggles.

Seems a bit odd that England has been given white as its colour, as it isn't really much of a colour (!) and it doesn't mention Northern Ireland at all. Just an oversight or is the regional output in NI different to the rest of the UK regions?

yellow.

Northern Ireland doesn't really like signing off news programmes as "BBC News", they did it for a while after the 1999 rebrand then very quietly replaced "BBC News Northern Ireland" with "BBC Northern Ireland" in the titles and changed the sign offs from "BBC News" to "BBC Newsline".

BBC Newsline is the brand in Northern Ireland, not BBC News, but I wonder will that get diluted again (at least temporarily) with this rebrand.

I'm like this to be honest, although the name changes and boxes are bugging me.

Nevertheless, I like the look of the studio (from what we've seen) and the titles. I just hope we keep the same layout in the News 24 graphics.

I don't think the images on here will do the actual titles justice - until I see it on screen I couldn't comment on it.

I agree. They look pretty good and fresh and innovative from the images on here but I'll wait until I see the whole lot on screen before passing judgement.

For goodness sakes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Anyway, I get the feeling there will be a sort of overlap period towards the end of this week, with use of 'News 24' being gradually phased out in favour of 'The BBC News Channel' a few days before the rebrand proper.

It might be confusing for people who then turn over to find News 24 instead. Rather, they might stop mentioning it for this week to phase-out the name.

Agreed - for Christ's sake Martin, what the hell are you playing at. We know what a number on a bit of china red looks like - and that's all it was. Who wants to look at that for 30 seconds when you can have some actual video?

Cos the video countdowns date quickly, look rubbish, and don't actually resemble the look of the channel...

Those caps are so very, very dull, I'd much rather watch our current countdown. I don't agree they age so much, in fact I'd say less than your wonderful caps.

But without the video it's just a bit of music with numbers. The video gives the countdown pace and makes the countdown feel like it is advancing. They could have re-jigged the current one better, having the datastreams in the right places with the music - have them being generic and the presenter ones without the datastreams and changeable.

If the countdown had no video, and matched the current brand, it would have to be changed every time the brand did. A countdown with video wouldn't have to.

What more quickly than looking at something which is exactly the same throughout apart from the number changing?

Beg to differ - and they were put together by some award winning film bloke.

Yes they do, they have the bloody correspondents and presenters on! The old countdown only represented the titles which are on screen for seconds every hour.
