Out of interest do we know if the BBC News 24 and BBC World countdown are going to stay, be revamped or dropped completely in the new look?

Without the channel being called News 24, having 24 hundredths of a second on the countdown of each second is simply not physics.

And before someone points it out it's nothing to do with fps.

Sorry but that's exactly what it is FPS! Wink But I doubt the countdown's will stay in their current form. But I don’t think they will be dropped completely.

Whatever happens at least they will match. At the moment World and News 24 have two different styles.

I hope they introduce countdowns on BBC One too.

With there being 25 FPS, they should just do it in 4 hundredths of a second per frame, ie. 00 96 92 88, IMO having it go from 24 - 00 has always looked off.

I hope they drop the VT countdowns, and go back to displaying information over an abstract graphic with large numbers on the screen. It dates less than the VT ones.

Also PAL TV in the uk runs at 25 frames per second, so it goes from 24-0 as each frame has a number...

Well, I love the newsroom backdrop (from the little image, I must admit) and that box is actally growing on me Shocked

Hopefully a but more will come through (i.e. press office) for us to argue over soon!

Oh, and well done to martin and his mocks - one of them was almost spot on and the lower third stuff made me laugh more than i have in years!

You mean, instead of an ident, or a clock, use a 10 sec or so countdown?

No I don't think that would work.

It would confuse- News on BBC One is high rated... they need to remind viewers they are watching BBC One and not News 24/BBC News Ch.

Agreed. The 1999 red countdown was fantistic - such amazing detail and then the BBC World 2002 one was even better. And as you said they could display information or even headlines with video too like Sky News did for a while. That would suit BBC World even more than News 24. More interesting than the same images over and over again even if there were four versions of the countdown. There would be infinate ways to make each countdown unique.

No I don't think that would work.

In theory it could work, as long as it merges the BBC One and BBC News branding, or is BBC One branded completely.

You could have a more news-themed BBC One ident... globe is a nice circle for example... but I do think a countdown would look out-of-place on One.

I would definitely welcome a few news theme idents - think that woul re-enforce the brand further (the whole point of the rebrand....)

A separate countdown on One wouldn't be a good idea. But why couldn't BBC One join the BBC News 24 countdown to the One O'Clock News and the Ten O'Clock News if its all going to be coming from N6 anyway?
