Don't see what people's problem is here. The clock isn't "slung anywhere", it's tidily positioned next to the DOG. Looks fine to me.
But why not have it the backing the same colour as the BBC NEWS 24 DOG? Like when it was to the left of the DOG in 16:9 zone.
Random guess... cos then there's too much red compared to white!

Does anyone know if anything will be done (in the new look) about incorporating the clock into the BBC NEWS DOG - being the same colour - it really does look silly the way it is at the moment (when the Ticker isn't present it looks ok with the Black backing - but when the ticker is overlayed the clock just looks like a black Blob slung anywhere).

Because it wouldn't stand out as well.

The 10 O’Clock and One O’Clock News programmes will share a new “crisp and modern” studio with the BBC’s rolling news channel – placing presenters such as Huw Edwards and Fiona Bruce behind a more formal oval-shaped desk.
As well as renaming News 24 more than 10 years after its launch, the corporation will rebrand BBC World, the international news channel, as BBC World News.

So BBC World is actually being retitled BBC World News!? I though they were just changing the way they opened the bulletins, really bad decision.

Shouldn't it be red for Wales, green for NI?
