The point I was trying to make was that changing the backdrop - even if it is just flicking a switch - is one more thing for the director to remember and one more thing that could go wrong. At what times would they change the backdrop? If they overran that time with breaking news and forget, when would it change then? Unless it's automated, it could end up being more trouble than it's worth.
I think it was during a package on TV trickery a few months ago on Newsnight - noddie shots, that kind of thing - that Kirsty Wark ended her bit to camera by showing the whole Newsnight set going from 'default' to 'Newsnight' modes literally in couple of seconds. The backdrop, colours, light positions, everything changed instantly.
So I think it would actually be possible to switch from one 'look' to another - it would all be automated and easily set up.
Newsnight is in TC17, which has a much more sophisticated lighting system than N6, and is designed for constant turnarounds of sets, while N6 is not. Although, they have been doing substantial engineering upgrades to it, so who knows what plans they have.

That's the second fake newsroom backdrop.
Yes, hence i said it looks like the 'FIRST' fake newsroom backdrop!
Are you talking about this awful background?

Yes that is the one i was reffering to. The first 'fake' newsroom backdrop of the previous set.

Nobody should have ever been under the impression that N6/TC7 were going to change drastically, considering they're less then two years installed. The old brand was/is very strong and there is no reason why they cant rehash it if it will give a fundamentally better and more coherent look. Frankly, it's quite clear that no matter what's pulled out of the bag, nothing is going to get anything other then a negative or at best, vaguely neutral response from you.

Are Lambie Nairn unable to come up with anything original now then? We have a studio which is little more than a rehash of the previous one and titles which are just milking a decade old idea for all it's worth. I guess that's what happens then when you revamp for revamps sake (on a budget!).

Shall we just agree to wait until its onscreen?

Breakfast stays where it is surely, as the BBC News channel will need N6 from 0830 while Breakfast continues with the "fluffier" items.

The ideas for the original 1999 rebrand are still very good ideas. BBC News in-house decided to replace it with the current red ribbon shell monstrosity, so now Lambie-Nairn is returning to bring back the good ideas, but they have refreshed them to make it make them work in a brighter and cleaner way.
Incidentally, Mrs Heggasey (spl?) should have done this with the BBC One Balloon, rather than replace them with **** dancers...

Breakfast is remaining in TC7 along with the 6 O'Clock News.
So News 24 - sorry, the BBC News Channel
- will be able to break away from both Breakfast and the 6, only being tied to the 1 and 10. Not too bad then?

Ok, but will Breakfast get a new look to match the other BBC News titles. Also, when they switch to N6, will News 24 continue Breakfast with the same backing on the screens, and use the backing for weekend Breakfast?
Also, will News 24's graphics be consistent with all the other bulletins, both Local and National? So Breakfast's graphics being a variation on News 24's so we don't have the DOG and Clock missing on N24?
