I thought the backdrop was going to be changed to something "less distracting" - doesn't look that way from the image of the studio. In fact it looks just like the ITV News background.

Err - if anything it looks like the BBC News 2003-2006 backdrop behind Huw...

Agreed...

It certainly does just look like the first 'fake' newsroom backdrop from the previous set. Think we will just have to wait to see the full changes on screen before we pull it apart too much.

That's the second fake newsroom backdrop.

Think perhaps the backdrop should be a bit lighter (though maybe it's just the image) - but I will reserve my judgement on all of it. Except the name change. I may change my mind, but at the moment I think it's completely ridiculous.

Presumably it'll change depending on time of day?

The fact that the BBC admit the channel is known to all as "News 24" shows what a bad move this change will be.

The public will continue to refer to it as "News 24" for years, but the BBC won't recognise it. This is an incredibly ill-thought out move - just as most of the country has digital TV and needs to be able to recognise a brand amongst many.

Of course, by the time some new management come in and change it back again it will be too late. This is another "ITV News Channel" debacle in the making (it's probably the same people who came up with that idea).

Oh dear!

Firstly, that globe shot looks awful, especially with the box. Come on BBC - make your mind up. I thought you were phasing the box out of most of your presentation.

Back to the News 24 issue - firstly, if they are using the box, it's not going to make the titles look worse by having "News 24" in the box rather than just "News".

Secondly though and I liken it to the axing of Grandstand. It's long gone, but certainly in our house it's "what's on Grandstand this afternoon?" - never any mention of watching things on "BBC Sport", however great their generic ident might now be.

And you talk about press releases etc. advising of the change - remember Grandstand was pulled with little more than 48 hours notice.

Just seen the picture of the new studio. Very nice, dark and sophisticated, but abstract with faint swirling maps from the new titles imposed over it.

You can't make out the swirling maps from the Gateway image posted here.

That would be a nice gesture, thinking back to when they used a delayed shot of the news centre, but I am not sure if they will bother, considering its a fake newsroom, and not filmed.

Well they do it for the current cityscape backdrop.

Huw's head seems to be in the middle of a globe.

Yes, but don't forget, News 24 will be coming from N6 now as well. It'll be on air practically all day. I don't know what will happen but I would think changing backdrops would be more of an effort than it's worth. They only have minutes, if not seconds, between bulletins and having to switch backdrops surely would lead to errors? It's OK now because they have hours to set up N6 for BBC One but when N24 is in there I guess it would be more difficult. The backdrop doesn't really change all that much on N24 now (except for the sports area where you can see the windows of the News Centre) so I wouldn't see the need to do it in N6.
