I am sure BBC World will keep its name, but the news updates will be branded BBC World News. Perhaps BBC World will get new branding not linked to the News branding, I for one hope so.

This BBC World name change makes me laugh as well. From its inception in 1995, the presenter always said "Welcome to BBC World News...". That lasted for years until some big suits decided it wasn't right in 2005. They changed it to "This is BBC News from BBC World...". Again, this was changed to just 'Welcome to BBC World..." in 2007, which is as it currently stands. Now, if they're going back to 'BBC World News', they've come full circle in just a few years. Honestly, you couldn't make this stuff up!!

Just think how many hours of meetings will have been held about it!

The newsroom looks great, modern.

Anyone else notice how the headline on archiveTV's screengrab states "News 24" as the current name, and "BBC News Channel" as the new one? Seems to be deliberately typed to show the necessity of the BBC part in the new name. Somewhat ironic, though, that simply News 24 suffices there, showing what a great brand it has grown into....

Great point.

"Hello and welcome to BSkyB News..."

Would it be possible for a close up of the picture of Huw instead of the whole Gateway page? (Not saying that I'm not grateful for the first cap of the studio!)

It's only a really small pic on gateway - and probably shouldn't have been posted anyway Smile

Well as you said to keep and eye on the papers this weekend, and as it's not been in today's press, I presume it's embargoed til midnight tonight?

Its interesting to note that Lambie-Nairn named BBC World back in 1995, and rebranded it in 2000, but after BBC News did subsequent changes in house, the focus changed, and all the changes happened. Now Lambie-Nairn is back, they are putting things the way they were, and apart from the unease of News 24 loosing its number, they seem to be making all the right changes.

I wonder if the News 24 and Sky News paper reviews will mention it.

Not if it's embargoed til midnight - or do they do a review after midnight?

The fact that the BBC admit the channel is known to all as "News 24" shows what a bad move this change will be.

The public will continue to refer to it as "News 24" for years, but the BBC won't recognise it. This is an incredibly ill-thought out move - just as most of the country has digital TV and needs to be able to recognise a brand amongst many.

Of course, by the time some new management come in and change it back again it will be too late. This is another "ITV News Channel" debacle in the making (it's probably the same people who came up with that idea).

Oh dear!
