What a stupid idea to drop the '24' when that name is so firmly established. 'BBC Five' would be better than 'BBC News Channel' - that's just awful!

I hate any channel name that needs the word "Channel" at the end. I would have much preferred the ITN News Channel to be just ITN or ITN 24. I think the BBC brand Hitlers have an issue with the fact it is colloqueally known as News 24 (ie dropping the BBC bit). If the channel name is "BBC News", you can't drop the BBC bit.

Dumb idea. Sorry, but there you are.

The thing is I'd have thought they will rarely refer to it as the BBC News Channel - probably when they're referring to it at the end of BBC One bulletins. On screen it'll be just BBC News most likely.

Yep, I think that's exactly it. Adding "Channel" distinguishes it from other outlets. The channel's presenters and presentation will just refer to it as "BBC News" - a super bland name for the whole kaboodle.

It's going to be the equivalent of painting every room in a house cream.

You've probably hit the nail on the head there. Only explanation I've seen so far which makes some sort of sense - even if I don't agree with it at all.

Also, it could be possible, people aren't seeing News 24 as a part of BBC News. There is a big disconnect from the BBC One bulletin viewing figures and News 24's. This could be their way of reminding people, that rather than News 24 being just one part of BBC News, it is in fact the heart of it, and it is BBC One who gets its news from "BBC News"

Yeah, BBC News reminds me instantly of a news service, but BBC News 24? No way.

I am sure they conducted research, sometimes you should have faith, and ignore your personal feelings...
