There is this report at Media Guardian, but it is nearly two years old and claims the changes would take over a year.
As it says -
However, it may be more than a year before the change is fully implemented, as BBC News executives work through the practical implications arising from Mr Thompson's Creative Future plan for the corporation's output to be available "any time, any place, anywhere"
... and what is the current 'savings' scheme called? Creative Future.
It's been out there for a while, just taking time for it to come to fruitation.
So then what are they going to call Film 24, E24 (which only started a few weeks ago!) and Entertainment 24? It's a silly change, everyone will call it News 24 for many more years anyway.
By the way looking at the BBC News homepage now it looks like orange might be a prominent colour... the 'Explore the BBC' button is orange, and its only orange on the News site, theres orange on the banner and the little TV and Radio News Programmes section is also orange.
I hope the new graphics are nice... i really like News 24's at the mo, and the thought of the BBC News logo in a box permanently on screen fills me with dread, looks so much better as it is.

Sorry...
does this mean that shaving off the 24 is a COST CUTTING MEASURE?
When BBC TV News rebrands can we expect the BBC Regional TV News Magazines to rebrand at exactly the same time ?
If the Regional Studios are going to rebrand as well can we expect to see new studio sets, new titles, new theme music, new astons etc ?
Do you think that if the sets change in the regions will they all look exactly the same like with a Generic look like ITV Regional News has or will they keep the same mish mash of adopting the new look but with their own variations if you no what iI mean ?
Anybody have any Details / Information on what is happening in the Regions ?

The Regions will be brought in line with the new global brand so far as titles and astons. I expect the sets will remain as now.
Well for some regions it's much needed, but I hope they don't dumped North West Tonight's titles. I assumed they were probably the first to get a new generic look, which works pretty well with the current BBC News look.

Yes, in the same way as removing "Farm" from "Emmerdale Farm" meant it didn't take so long to read. They were able to pack a lot more story in.
A better solution, if they are intent on "strengthening" the BBC News brand (hmm..) would be to keep the channel name BBC News 24, but brand all of the content as just BBC News.
It would be like BBC World - the channel name is BBC World, but the news content is branded BBC News.

Except News 24 has no ident, just countdown, headlines, titles...
Hopefully presenters will still refer to the channel as "BBC News 24" but the on-air identity will just say "BBC News"?
It's a bit like the old national news straps, the programme was referred to as "BBC News" but the straps just had the BBC logo, which is a bit like what BBC Arabic do now. Their dog reads BBC, instead of BBC Arabic. The same goes with AlJazeera English, all of their graphics, and all of the presenters name the channel "AlJazeera", one presenter said "It was decided that we would remain true to the Arabic channel and its history and just call ourselves 'Al Jazeera' on-air"
Which I suppose, is what BBC News are doing with BBC News 24. They want to 'remain true" to the BBC News service, which has been long running down the years.
