This talk of the return of the boxed logo is worrying me - please no towers!!! (although it would fit with the "let's swap graphics" trend News 24 and Sky News seem to have been going through the past few revamps!).

You wonder if they're so obsessed with what their opposition are doing they lose sight of the reasons for their own layouts.

I'm guessing it will be like the Westminister Studio at Millbank, which was used when there was a powercut in 2003. As its not used often this is what it looks like:

Its a nice looking set that is.
Was it built as specially to be a back up for N24/world.
I think that if carrie didnt tell viewers they were down there because of the power cut the viewers wouldnt have known they N24 was away from its usuall home.

It was used for Dateline London, earliest I can remember it was 1998 and the desk was a film cannister. (I think)

Wasn't this position also previously used for interviews where the interviewee was in Westminster?

It was also used for other domestic political programmes, including Westminster Live (with Diana Madill, Zeinab Badawi, Nick Robinson) in the late 1990s, early 2000s, as well as Euro Brief with David Jessel, IIRC.

No, it's always been at Millbank.

I do hope they keep a similar sort of layout to the present one for the new straps and graphics. They are neat, tidy and unobtrusive, and everything feels like it's in the right place.

Don't worry the Tower (and it's terrible animation) is NOT about to make a comeback!!! Wink

Remember when the December 2003 relaunch happened and the globe on the Tower spun the wrong way for a few days?! I actually recently found out that a similar thing happened with the ITV News titles shortly after the 1999 relaunch.

I never really liked the live rendered titles on N24/World. It sounded great in principle but on air it didn't really work - sometimes, people forgot to update the headline or the globe started from the wrong continent, etc. At least with normal titles (like now) there's very little that can go wrong. I was so glad when News 24 went back to standard titles last year.
