Has Rajesh Mirchandani or James Coomerasamy presented recently? Didn't see them in a while, Rajesh was sort of making a sudden comeback to studios a few months ago, but hasn't seen him anymore now.

Rajesh appeared a couple of weeks ago on the 2-5pm shift alongside Emily Maitlis. Also worth noting that Maxine has done a five-day week this week, which is good, as she is a good newsreader! Might be a 6 day week if she appears tomorrow as well!

It was probably due to it being the Summer and no presenters being available but we could see him next week or the week after during October Half Term Holidays or at Christmas

Again, with the departure of Flanders, this leaves the entire Editors line-up as male only. What internal female candidates are there to take on a major role? Joe Lynam would have been the obvious replacement, but can't see that given the headlines and Tony Hall's aim of increasing female representation. So I too can only see an external appointment...

Would Emma Simpson be suitable to move from business correspondent to business editor?

I'm sure she would be a good replacement. She always seems to be one of the 'main' business correspondents they use. How long has she been with the BBC for?

No imho, there is a big difference in a correspondent's role and being A BBC Editor. Both Jeff Randall and Robert Peston were huge names in financial journalism when they were appointed from outside the BBC. Both also had experience in editing in publications like The Times, Telegraph etc

Peston's successor comment ...

For rookie BBC news supremo James Harding, switching Robert Peston to economics editor looks a canny chess move that makes it easier to ensure one (out of 11!) of the elite super-hacks known as "on-air editors" is still female. As Monkey has hinted before, ITV News's business editor Laura Kuenssberg – formerly a BBC political correspondent, and worth a bet as eventual successor to Nick Robinson – is a likely target, as is Channel 4 News's business correspondent Siobhan Kennedy, who was on the Times in the Harding era. The early front-runner, Stephanie Flanders's giant understudy Hugh Pym, may have to content himself with developing a (relatively) little and large, hyper and suave double act with Pesto. A bit like Armstrong and Miller, or Armstrong and Osman.
