Retaking Dharshini David from Sky News wouldn't be a wrong move either.

Shocked Sorry WTF? It would be like appointing Ellie Crisell to replace Paxman.
Nowhere near experienced enough to be the BBC's Economics editor. Stephanie is an actual Economist who used to work at the top of the US Treasury as a researcher and speechwriter for Larry Summers and was a senior writer/columnist for the New York Times and the Financial Times.
I know she went to Cambridge but Dharshini has spent the vast of her career as a presenter of business news updates and PR (even spinning for Tesco on Watchdog).

Other than Hugh Pym - who would surlely reconsider his position at the BBC if he were overlooked again - are there any likely frontrunners or interesting candidates for the job? Economics , as opposed to business, personal finance and politics, isn't a specialism many broadcast journalists seem to regularly cover on the BBC, let alone at the Flanders-Robinson-Peston level. Flanders and Pym seem to do most of the economics reporting across al platforms, whereas there's quite a number of business and political correspondents. Other than an outsider - maybe from old media (like Peston (?) and David Bond) - I wonder who would be considered. Might Paul Mason have been on the shortlist had he not left for Channel 4?

As for Flanders, I wish her luck. Though this reminds me of Laura Kuenssberg's departure - both were clearly being 'groomed' for more prominent positions.

The recently arrived Linda Yueh may well fit the bill? Although, her remit appears to be a bit more Asian thus far. Retaking Dharshini David from Sky News wouldn't be a wrong move either.

Hugh Pym does seem the most logical solution, however.

If they are going to do a reshuffle, it would be nice to see Simon Compertz included in the mix somewhere.

Anyone noticed for the last hour of Newsday today, 1am UKT, Mike Embley anchored for the hour instead of Babita Sharma. Babita has been presenting the preceding hours of Newsday just to clarify. I wonder what happened there?

David Cameron's speech took an hour, if not more, on BBC News today!
Does anyone know who presented after he spoke, from 12-2?
NC did simulcast with Andrew Neil's Daily Politics before Cameron's speech, it is worth noting.

A friend told me that Nicholas Owen made a rare weekday appearance on the NC today. However, I'm not sure if he was in the slot you mention, Tom.

Edit: beaten to it! LOL.

So this confirms two useful things to us then!

She goes on to say that she'll appear on BBC World News from time to time.

That'll save them from having to edit the Countdown, has there been any announcement on who will take over the "Impact with..." position?

She may well have the kind of relationship with World that Jon Sopel has with domestic - I expect to see Mishal covering major world events for radio, World and the News Channel. After all, correspondents are expected now to appear on as many different platforms as possible when covering a story.

And no, no announcement that I know of.

In other news......

Ros Atkins is leaving World Have Your Say TV and is taking up a new role presenting a daily radio programme on World Service Radio: Outside Source, I believe it's called.
