Impact would be sort of a prime time program in places like South East Asia. Singaporeans for instance get to watch it at 9pm. In UK, I suppose that would be midday or lunch hour and probably isn't an attractive time slot to invite audience to the news.

Impact is indeed for viewers in South East Asia, hence here in the Philippines, it is our prime time program (along with GMT).

Probably explains why it was called Impact Asia some time back. But why dropped 'Asia' from it.
Got some explanation from Wikipedia now, 'In 2011 the programme was renamed Impact to avoid the exclusion of other sections of the global audience.' The wikipedia has some info about the Impact program.

Seems like a good move, but Impact Asia seems a bit more catchy. Still could attract a global audience.

Talking of Impact, it's been announced this morning that Mishal Husain is joining the Today programme on Radio 4 in autumn - finally they have a second female presenter.

I guess this means that she'll be leaving BBC News and BBC World News then.

Oh dear, now I'm engulfed with guilt for criticizing her on Impact. To see her leave a show that's under her name is really sad. But probably, BBCWN had been thinking of putting a fresh face to it, as she's been on the program for a long time.

You realise this is a promotion, right? 'Today' is probably held in higher regard than the network bulletins, on par roughly with Newsnight (though without the controversy). While I wasn't expecting her to join Today, this is definitely WN's loss.

^ I didn't know that. Interesting. When does this program air?

I don't think so; Today is on a rota, so chances are she won't be appearing everyday. However, we can probably assume that she won't present both on the same day, although that isn't impossible.

I wonder if Yalda Hakim will take over? Is she still presenting on World News?

^ Thanks. With those hours it's impossible to stay on World afternoon schedule.

So she probably would stay with Impact; she'll just have the day off when she did Today in the morning. With Lucy Hockings as relief, there shouldn't be a problem.
