What is the most flagship slot to present? I've always said the 2-5.

When most people are hard at work? Confused

I'd have thought 19:00-22:00 would be considered the most watched portion of the day. It was always when Gavin Esler presented a decade ago when he was the channel's chief presenter. News 24 was always double-headed in the evenings at weekends too.

Don't think there is a flagship time - very dependent on the news that comes in that day. News doesn't just come in between 2pm and 5pm...

When did Gavin Esler reduce his shifts? Why did he?

But in the evenings you're going up against all the other primetime fare, like radio I would suspect its highest ratings are in daytime. It was different as well at the turn of the century because both News 24 and Sky News pumped up their schedules at 10pm to take advantage of the end of News at Ten, and then at 9pm to take advantage of the end of the Nine O'Clock News.

I'd say that because of the number of press calls and announcements that are made in the morning, mid-mornings would be a prime slot on a news channel.

Because he started presenting Newsnight, probably.

George Alagiah was again absent from the News at 6 today. Has he been on GMT recently?

For goodness sake - he's obviously on holiday or assignment. The world goes on and the News at Six gets presented by someone else.

I'm not meaning to be especially rude - I just don't get the need to ask about his absence several times already. None of us know how long he is off or where he is, and in the big scheme of things it doesn't really matter - he'll be back when he's back which I'm sure will be soon.

If he aint back after a month, then start worrying!

I don't get this 'thought police' mentality on here.

You can't make a simple comment on here thesedays without being accused of invading privacy.

To be fair the OP did not ask how long he will be off for or whether he is on assignment.

The first time he asked where George was which could have been invasion of privacy if he was asking for a holiday destination. I think he was only asking whether he was on a specific assignment that may have been of interest.

This is, of course, the presenters thread so it seems entirely reasonable to ask whether a presenter has been on GMT or not.

Who has been doing GMT recently?

Sophie on the 6 tonight.

GMT has been a real variety lately. It's been quite a lot of Zeinab Badawi and Kate Silverton. I've also seen appearances by Komla Dumor, David Eades and Mike Embley in the last few weeks. If I'm not mistaken, Tim Willcox was the GMT presenter yesterday.

Kate Silverton does world? (And I was merely asking where he was in in the sense of assignment/leave or even if he had left the programme, not attempting in any way to invade the privacy of him. Tad offended but oh well.)

Yes, indeed. Kate does do World. GMT, specifically. And is rather well suited to it too.

George is on a very special assignment. Relax. He will be back.
