Nicholas Owen was one of the best and greatest newsreaders on ITV during the 90s and 00s, along with John Suchet, Trevor McDonald and Dermot Murnaghan. He then continued this greatness when he moved to BBC News 24 and took to rolling news like a duck taking to water, as though he'd been doing it his entire life, unlike Peter Sissons who, whilst excellent at fixed bulletins, looked like a lost puppy on News 24.

I can certainly think of far worse newsreaders over the years than Nicholas Owen.

Let's not forget Channel 4 News too.

I remember his first appearance on there. As the studio lights faded he sat and banged his head on the desk, I'm not sure out of relief or frustration, but I don't think he realised is was still on camera !

He's a nice chap, I met him once about 20 years ago.

He loves trains.

I think he's an excellent newscaster, personally.

WHo on earth is complaining about Nicholas? He is also the voice of Croydon trams. Edit: I see people are complaining about Nick Owen again why?

I have to chime in to support Nicholas Owen. A splendid newscaster who could cope with anything from Breakfast to News at Ten and everything in between. I agree with Markymark about him being a thoroughly nice chap along with it. I’ve met, or at least seen in action at close hand, quite a few of the BBC and ITN newscasters over the past 20 years and I’ve experienced a fair number of prima donnas and arrogant people off camera, but Nicholas is not one of them. I was toying with the idea of a career as a journalist about 20 years ago and I contacted Nicholas for some advice, mainly because he seemed like an approachable sort of person. I was blown away when not only did he reply but he proceeded to ask for my number and telephoned me from the ITN newsroom for a chat. That’s the mark of a great professional in my book.

I agree with everyone who is saying Nicholas Owen is excellent. He does hardly anything on the channel anymore which is bad because he is a good presenter.

I think he might be semi-retired, which would explain why he isn't on much anymore - he is 72, after all.

We certainly don't see him enough on the News Channel these days. He was brilliant on the ITV Lunchtime News and really made it his own with his closing lines.

"Join us tomorrow for the next instalment of the lunchtime news!" Am I right in thinking that he'd sometimes point a finger at the camera as well? An excellent newscaster, in any case.

Who's presenting the business on the NC this afternoon?

Haven't got a clue, but their first bulletin at 13:40 was a bit of a mess. Couldn't seem to read the autocue and instead of looking at the catwalk screens where an interviewee was projected on, they insisted on asking questions directly to the camera which looked rather odd indeed.

It's Rebecca Marston, she's been a very occasional business presenter for at least a few years.

The name is familiar, I think she used to do business bulletins which were supplied to BBC Local Radio stations to incorporate into their drivetime programmes many years ago.

Nicholas Owen is a great presenter tbh. I think he is only a relief presenter when there’s a shortage of presenters (ie rota’d presenter is off ill, and none of the backups are available either). You usually see him over holiday periods, last time he presented was during Hallowe’en on Afternoon Live, so he’s certainly not off the airwaves any time soon!
