It can't be long until Fiona Bruce leaves BBC News, she's hardly on it these days, Sophie Raworth seems to of taken over the Friday six and ten.

Is Sophie back doing the One now George is back?

I swear I see Sophie and Clive more on the BBC bulletins than Huw nowadays.

If Fiona does step away completely it might make sense to put George in that role and have Sophie or Clive (or arguably there are better candidates at the BBC) officially become the main 6pm presenter. From the discussions in other threads about 1999 I do think BBC News is in a place again where it would benefit from a bit of a presenter shake up too.

Which candidates do you think are better that you'd like to see take on the Six? I think Christian Fraser would be good if he was up for it.

I imagine Huw will probably move on in a few years, there doesn't appear to be anyone waiting to replace him. It's a similar situation on Match of the Day with Gary.

This is not an attempt to turn this into a fantasy Rota thread, for no good shall become of such things.

However.......

BBC News may want to look a bit closer to home for the Six and Ten top slots, Should it be deemed that a refresh is required.

If Fiona left i would have George & Kate on the 1. 6 I would have George (Mon) & Sophie. For the 10 I would have Huw & Sophie (Fri)

I'm probably going off-topic here since it's more about MOTD than BBC News but I actually think BBC are pretty well positioned actually if Lineker did decide to leave in the future - Gabby Logan and Mark Chapman are both fantastic and more than capable of being the BBC lead football presenter and if it weren't for the fact he doesn't work Sundays (sort of an issue for Euros and World Cup Football) the same would be true of Dan Walker.

Now if you'd said this ten years ago when the Beeb's number two was Colin Murray I think you'd have been correct. His stint on MOTD2 didn't seem to suggest he'd the broadcaster you'd want fronting a World Cup Final.

Not sure about Gabby Logan’s style she seems to keep on going about David and Goliath like there’s no equal games, it’s a bit predictable really.

She's presented Champions League finals though so I'd say is pretty qualified to be a lead football presenter - never mind being one of the most experienced sports presenters around. Anyway I'll stop before we go off on a complete tangent.

I'd really like to see Ben Thompson given some shifts as the lead news channel presenter. Think he's still got great potential.

I remember he done a Bank Holiday Monday shift a couple of years ago, surprised he hasn't been asked since. Another one think with future potential is Ben Bland. He would really suit the News at One if the opportunity arose.

I am surprised that he hasn't covered the briefing yet but other than that business presenters covering news appear to normally do so in addition rather than instead of their normal work so he probably isn't interested in doing more as he already works 5 days a week for business and regaurly appears on breakfast on Sundays (and as business live airs on Bank Holidays if he was available he would be doing that).

Simon Pusey filled in on World News today. Apparently he hasn’t been on the air lately instead he founded a late night food delivery service. And his Twitter isn’t very active.
