Interesting that Shaun Ley will be filing in on Newswatch for the next 3 weeks. Has anyone ever presented this programme other than Samira Ahmed and Raymond Snoddy before her?

Adam Shaw has presented the programme before. There's a clip of him presenting on youtube

Superb. I look forward to Shaun presenting.

Can anyone confirm if Jane Hill has left BBC News and/or the News Channel? Admittedly I don't manage to watch the NC during the daytime (9am - 5pm), but I haven't seen her on after 5pm or cover BBC 1 weekends at all recently either.

Don't know if this will do any help but https://champions-speakers.co.uk/business-speakers-motivational-speakers/news-presenters/jane-hill/

That's quite an old article - Jane hasn't presented the 11-2 shift on BBC News since 2012!

It wouldn't really surprise me if Jane jumped ship the way Sian Williams did. I know she regularly did the One before her absence but once George Alagiah is back properly on the Six Sophie Raworth can go back to the One and the only regular slot for Jane will be the Five on Fridays.

There would still be the six & ten slot on Fridays that would need filling

My word, we’re a boring bunch at times. A presenter is seemingly on a sabbatical for whatever reason, a reason which quite frankly is none of our business, and now suddenly we’ve decided she’ll jump ship?!

Even before George had to take his second leave of abscene, sadly he was rarely presenting four times a week. I could see the Six becoming a job share between George and Sophie, with one of Reeta/Jane/Ben taking over the One. I don't want to turn this into a fantasy rota post, if anyone wants to know my thoughts on that, I'm willing to talk via private message Rolling Eyes

Think that is all but Clive Myrie's job now.

I think it's highly likely Jane Hill is doing what Carrie Gracie did and is taking a sabbatical. She'll be back soon.

Once it gets to six months absence we should get worried.

No, we shouldn't.

I didn't mean to start a discussion about why Jane is absent from the NC, I was just wondering if she's coming back or not.

Obviously it's none of our business why she is away. I guess being one of the original News 24 presenters that have been there since day 1 in 1997, you'd hope that if she did leave we'd know about it and she'd get an on-air send off like Chris Eakin and Maxine Mahwinney did.

If she wanted that

Not everyone does .

Jane still features in the countdown (most are quickly removed if they depart), still voices over some promos, and she lists herself as a BBC journalist on Twitter... it also says 'busy in the field of equality, diversity & inclusion' indicating she might be focusing on something else for a little while.
