Martin Stanford, a former newsreader for Sky News, is presenting on BBC World News on the 2-5am shift. Never ever seen him before on the channel.

Blimey! He's in the Embley slot. Good find.

Wow, great and unexpected news. One of Sky's finest that they neglected for years and finally dropped while inexperienced newbies were taking over.

Hope he's permanently at World now!

Hear Hear!

And if necessary, I'll give you a list of three presenters to take away altogether, just so Martin can stay.

Get Martin on Newsroom Live or Afternoon Live. Both formats would suit him.

Oh, where to start. Where to start? And three was maybe an underestimation........

Here he is reviewing the big stories on a show called Insight on TRT last year with Maxine Mawhinney. Literally two legends sat facing each other:

Great to see Martin making an appearance on BBC World.

Do have to say though towards the end of his time on Sky I do think others had deservedly moved ahead of him in the pecking order and IMO his presenters seem less lively/enthused than in the 90s and noughties when he really was fantastic on Sky News Today and SkyNews.com . The likes of Lorna Dunkley, Samantha Simmonds and Andrew Wilson were bigger losses IMO (and I'm not surprised the first two have been snapped up by news channels since)

World could certainly do with a presenter like him though - whenever I hear about World there seem to be newbies popping up out of nowhere(particularly at weekends) and who because they're inexperienced lack the gravitas BBC World presenters have been known for over the years.

World still has some fantastic and experienced newscasters - Eades, Bundock, Hockings, Giannone, Thomas, Amroliwala, Guru-Murthy, the above-mentioned Samantha Simmonds etc. - but another experienced hand is never a bad thing.

Great to see my doppleganger (long story) back on our screens. A shame he's not on the BBC News Channel ane at a more decent hour. A very good broadcaster who was undoubtedly sidelined by Sky.

Mishal Hussain presenting the News at 6 today, which is very unusual. We normally only see her presenting network bulletins for BBC One on the weekend.
