TVNewsviewer, if the comments given by others and rules in the yellow box are too confusing then maybe the simple solution is to avoid posting about presenters, there’s plenty of presentation discussion elsewhere on the site. A overboard dissection of other posts and the strap line of this site isn’t particularly productive.

Please just take this onboard without posting a dissertation.

It seems to me possibly half or even much more of this thread is not what is actually happening at the time of the post. For example, if I take some posts at random (and really not intending to pick on anyone trust me).

Krupa has been with the BBC for quite some time and can be heard on radio. She last presented on BBC World News around 5 years ago when Outside Source was originally launched from Studio J. She was Ros Atkins’ original replacement presenter one day per week, IIRC.

This relates to the past and not what is actually happening right now.
This is also what happened in the past, not what is now actually happening. However, it is all very useful pertinent information to the topic of this forum.

Probably the wrong thread for this but I love the fact Katty Kay just asked ... in an interview on Beyond 100 Days.

Again, in retrospect now 19 days later, this post is not something actually happening at the time of the post instead it is about what had just happened.

It seems to me almost everything we post is reaction to something that has just happened and therefore is not about what is actually happening at the time the post is made, as that is some seconds later.

Jon Kay on Breakfast today. On another Friday again. I think he has been on half the days - 4 out of 8 - in one 8 day period one and two weeks ago. He seems to be on both Fridays and Saturdays now , so will probably be on tomorrow as well! (I bet it's the opposite though - now I'm starting to think he's on more and more, which he certainly has been in the last few weeks, he'll probably stop again.) Maryam on Biz Live - she seems to have clearly joined the presenter team and is regularly presenting the programme, at least for now.

EDIT: Jon actually 5 days in a 9 day period (1st June to 9th June inclusive), so more than half the days! Including three days in a row Thursday-Saturday last week.

That is what is actually happening (or was what was actually happening at the time).
However, this is worded as an opinion and is not therefore sticking to the facts. I will now go and amend my original post.
This is factual information again.
However, this is speculation and should not have been posted.

This part is going off into a load of rubbish, including the statement "...he certainly has been in the last few weeks..." which is useful information relevant to the topic but again is about what has happened in the past and not what is "actually happening" - it seems to me there is the possibility of debate (although none of it to be posted on this forum as this for factual information only and not discussion involving any opinion or debate) about whether, even though this mentioned something in the past, the post as a whole was still focusing on things "actually happening".

At the time of the post, this is "actually happening".

I probably meet the rules more than anyone. However - what is this to do with "actually happening"? It is focusing on the past again.
In fact, thinking about myself saying "On another Friday...", we should all be saying the same thing as that woman did when hearing about the snap general election. "Not another one!"

I'm not saying that I don't like him, think he's on too much or I'm getting tired of his appearances - I'm just pointing out as a fact that he has been on as often as he has so far this month. (I don't think he will be presenting every Friday and Saturday in future - just some weeks he will be presenting on both Friday and Saturday. However, that may be wrong as all predictions I try to make will doubtless go awry.)

It's quite obvious why

Dan Walker has gone to the World Cup

So i'd expect to see Jon 2-3 days a week for the next month

That's factual information but is about the past. It should be "Dan Walker is at the World Cup, although he is currently not on air right at the time of this post" as that is "what is actually happening".

Is this "what is actually happening"? I am not sure. It's fact - because (I assume) the poster really does expect what they say they do but whether that is what is actually happening or not I am unsure about.

[snip]
To see if anyone had replied to my previous post presumably. They're in another studio, not Studio E, before midnight. Krupa Padhy has apparently presented before - on World News Radio then to World News TV although may have ended up on the News Channel just recently according to this.

I've no idea whether or not World News has used Studio E before (probably not since it's been operational from 2013, just before which I've been watching regularly (gosh, over five years already, time flies!) and I can't recall it being used before for World News unless it's happened in the middle of the night when I've been asleep).

This seems to be, superficially, what is actually happening - it is written in present tense. However, it was actually about what had happened a previous night (or astronomical twilight as technically some of us, including all in mainland UK, don't have night at this time of the year) before midnight so is strictly speaking not what is "actually happening" right then so I will go and amend/delete parts of the post.

This is all in the past again, so not what is "actually happening". It is an attempt to get the post back on track by acknowledging and referring to some facts that had usefully been posted. However, it's written in the past and not focusing on what is actually happening.

This is factually true, so sticking on facts, however it's a load of nonsense again as what has whether I have an idea or not to do with anything? It's also about use or not of Studio E in the past so not actually happening. It should be amended to "World News are using Studio E". However, that is not actually happening right now.

It seems to me if we stick to the rules on every occasion from now on, very little can be posted at all and then only at the time at which it is actually happening on BBC News.

Sorry I hadn't seen this until now.
If the solution is to avoid posting about presenters, then the "BBC News Presenters & Rotas" becomes just "BBC News... & Rotas". However, it seems to me rotas must be avoided as they will refer to presenters, thus the solution suggested is absolutely no posts at all can be posted.

I have fully taken it on board, as this is clearly what you are saying, and moreover now fully complied with the "without posting a dissertation" as this reply isn't a dissertation as it's a short few lines. I'm doing exactly what I am being told and complying with all rules in every respect, which thereby leads to this.

The rules were not confusing, until someone else posted a different understanding and I was then directed as to what they might mean. The confusion I have now is about the other areas where presentation discussion exists and what rules might or might not apply there. (It seems I'm way too concerned about rules.)

I think they already have a life, but a new hobby may be required. Try learning a language. I recommend Norwegian. Laughing

Damn! I’ll need to upsize my data package for next month.

How’s the weather in Stratford-Upon-Avon? And welcome back from the dead.

In other news: Chloe Tilley back on World this weekend. She’s rather good. Does she still do VD from time to time?

Yes, she seems to be the main cover for VD since Louisa Crompton left as Editor.

Lukwesa is now returning after a BBC One bulletin that was rather late and may seem to some to be longer (or feel longer) than some of the bulletins we are currently getting during weekdays.
