Because Scotland tends to show more football that involves having to move the news. Wales has a handful of matches a year and Northern Ireland has virtually nothing, and certainly nothing that would justify primetime BBC1 outings. I know last night's wasn't football-related but if Wales and NI had a big occasion they'd move it as well.

It seems a bit odd - looking at the BBC 1 Scotland listings it involved showing a programme about the Hebrides and then showing Pirates of the Carribean at 10:20 after the news. I can understand Scotland keeping the news to the normal times when it isn't a Bank Holiday in Scotland (but is elsewhere) but AFAIK yesterday was a Bamk Holiday in Scotland.
I remember ITN doing a short bulletin for UTV only when they couldn't take the main ITV News one Sunday evening. UTV were taking both the Ireland and Scotland matches during a Rugby World Cup.

It's probably because Scotland have a 3 part 60 minute series to fit in at 9pm, and they have chosen Mondays due to a lack of high profile network programming in the slot at the moment. Then to avoid an awkward 40 minute slot until the news, they have been granted a 10pm 'network news'.
I'm sure something similar has happened on Sundays before when network have scheduled something for 90 minutes and Scotland have had a 60 minute opt-out (or vice versa)
Yup, it's Katya Adler taking up the slot I guess that's shared between Nik Gowing and Geetha Guru-Murthy. Probably Geetha's off today. It's been ages since Katya reports from the studios. The last time I saw her anchoring was back in the old BBC studio, where she relieves for Peter Dobbie. Then she's off reporting around Europe early this year, including the financial crises and the Pope's resignation. Peter seems to be not doing regulars on weekdays anymore btw.

And David Eades not even showing up on his regular weekend afternoon shift, and also the 0800-1200 bulletins. Although Peter can't be regular on weekdays, he sometimes fill in for Mike Embley on overnights and doing weekends on World as well. But he did Monday morning though.
Yalda Hakim is really struggling with breaking news again... she doesn't appear to be able to ad lib to fill time... and when the autocue has a hissy-fit we get long silences whilst she shuffles through her papers.
Otherwise she's quite warm and likable, and definitely improved since her first day.
Karin Giannone has tweets a picture this morning of her in the World Service WHYS studio with Ros Atkins presenting. She said she will be presenting some editions of the programme from June. I wonder whether she will only be filling in for Ros on Fridays, when he does both the morning WS edition and afternoon WN edition, or whether she will be doing less tv and more radio now?
