There is some redeployment of Salford based presenters - Steph McGovern was reporting from the hospital into Breakfast and then into the news Special on Tuesday morning, available due to the Business spots on Breakfast being dropped.

The reason for Huw and George both being there is for Huw to do the One and Five and George to do the Six and Ten. You couldn't expect one person to do all of those.

Couldn't they not use Salford- based presenters to do the live broadcasts?

'This is Mr Tumble reporting from Manchester Royal Infirmary..... ' Very Happy

Yep and as the Salford based presenters are there for Breakfast, if they're doing the evening bulletins then they'll need to get other people up there for the morning. There's only a small pool of presenters, crew and production team in Salford

My point behind bringing it up was that the BBC have said they're not going to be sending anchors to major breaking news stories anymore and rely on correspondents instead. It just seems a bit counter intuitive to send the amount of resources they did.

No they said they were reducing the number.
Some of the presenters were probably already scheduled to be on location this week as part of the general election coverage, and others have been freed without replacement. It is in situations where something happened half way across the world that would take up 15 minutes or so per hour where they will no longer be sending presenters and not things that happen in UK and totally dominate the News.

Bingo, that its, Sending Hue up to Manchester on fast train which only take hours is nothing like send them to Spain or land of Oz. Ben brown is cross presenter/ reporter. Jane has been up there for a couple of days, Also there is BBC office in Manchester.

Doesn't even need to go on a train, really, it's only a few hours away by car.

Martine Croxall now on BBC One (but not BBC One Scotland as they have the Scottish Cup Final).

EDIT: Now told it's BBC Two in Scotland in the reply below (as if anyone in Scotland will be watching BBC Two lol).

BBC Two Scotland must have opted into network BBC One (for the national news) as there was no ticker. So they can't have been taking the News Channel feed if I'm right?

It now looks like three different presenters on the BBC One news today (One/Two/One in Scotland). This doesn't happen often (Martine has replied to a tweet to say she's on until 1900 so I assume she's not on the evening bulletin). The last time this happened, which also happened to be a Saturday, had Emily Maitlis just doing the late evening bulletin - Martine was also involved as part of those three (doing the early evening bulletin - the news was obviously a bit later that what it's been today) and one of the items in the news was about Alton Towers (something in relation to the accident that had happened earlier in the year).

IIRC that was after some major news (possibly the Paris attacks) that the scheduled presenter was on location at short notice.
