So excluding the network and simulcast hosts the news channel must be down to just 4 or 5 presenters a day now compared to around double that not so long ago. Although the channel may have been spared with the last round of DQF it doesn't really feel like it has been. Surprised too there is still quite a separation between the network bulletins and the news channel - I think only Huw has a regular slot. Does George still host GMT?

No, GMT is usually Lucy Hockings Monday to Thursday with Stephen Sackur on Fridays.

Such a shame. Maxine is an excellent broadcaster and always made the weekends on the News Channel a pleasure to watch.

The old school News 24 team is now very much dwindling. From what I can recall I think only Jane Hill remains. Can't think of anyone else who was theres towards the start that's still there now.

I, for one, am gutted that Maxine is leaving BBC News for good. She had a warm personality while reading the news & I will miss her.

Maxine also has a job in the BBC News school of Journalism. I suppose she will not remain at that role either.

BBC News still have some female presenters left although it is a reasonably small but competent amount of them left like Fiona Bruce, Sophie Raworth, Kate Silverton, Jane Hill, Mishal Husain, Martine Croxall, Reeta Chakrabarti, Sophie Long, Lukwesa Burak & Emily Maitlis (although she is on Newsnight).

Jane Hill is the only original female presenter left from BBC News 24. Four of those presenters listed above are on the NC rota with her at the present time. They are Martine Croxall, Reeta Chakrabarti, Sophie Long & Lukwesa Burak.

These five ladies are currently not a very big list to choose from when talking the NC female presenting team.

I wouldn't want to think about who is going next off that list. That will be a daunting challenge for me in any case.

Does being in the same building count? Matthew Amrioliwala is still nearby doing Global.

What about the female presenters on BBC World News? Has Geeta Guru-Murphy left?

Sarah Montague is also still working in the building with radio 4 (and still appearing on the News Channel with occasional Hard Talks, as I believe is Valerie Sanderson at World Service.
Geeta is still at World News.

Looking forward to Maxine's tribute at 4.50pm on the BBC News Channel.

Apparently a post on Digital Spy said today that Samantha Simmonds is going to be Maxine's replacement.

It's possible that that's the case, but I sincerely doubt the DS source KNOWS that. As far as well-sourced information goes, it's the land of "Freddie Starr Ate My Hamster"!

Samantha was on World this weekend and also a couple of weeks ago.

Will truly miss Maxine. The lady is legendary. Almost as legendary as Skygeek.

Kind regards,
