Jane Hill was presenting Saturday PM this week - wonder if we might see more of presenters like Jane and Simon McCoy appearing on other BBC outlets (like World News and Radio 4)?

Not unprecedented. Sian Williams filled in on "PM" when I worked there long before her "Saturday Live" stint and while she was still appearing on bulletins, if not "Breakfast".

And I'm sure I've read somewhere that Jane herself filled in for Jeremy Vine on radio 2 for a week about 10 years ago.

Maxine Mawhinney has moved back to weekend mornings starting from today.

Maxine has now announced that this arrangement is only until April 9th when (I presume) Gavin will be back to weekend mornings.

Another Update to this-it turns out Gavin Esler is leaving the BBC in two weeks to concentrate on book writing.

He's one of the longest serving as he was with the channel when News 24 launched. Following his departure that must make Jane Hill the longest serving presenter?

It's been a sad 12 months with so many established presenters leaving both the BBC News channel and Sky News.

I believe Jane and Maxine Mawhinney have both been with News 24 (or the news channel) since the start.

Sad news to learn that Gavin is leaving. A real pro - to be honest for me he's one of the best newscasters that the BBC have, with a great sense of humour, but times change and people do move on.

I liked watching him on Dateline: London - about the only show of his on World.

But looking at Wikipedia it says he's 64 and is approaching retirement age. With the pension, what other savings and income from his books he should live quite comfortably.

I assume that Gavin will count as one of the three redundancies from news channel staff that management wanted as part of the cost cutting measures.

Well, yes.
I'm not sure where they think theres room for another 2 (unless some of the relief presenters are still news channel staff), considering the news channel is now down to 8 (yes eight including Victoria Derbyshire) presenters with their own shifts (Joanna G, Annita M, Victoria D, Martine C, Jane H, Maxine M, Simon M, and Clive M).

Hope Maxine gets Dateline.

Hope Maxine gets Dateline.

Likewise!! She is really suited to it.

Jane Hill and Annita McVeigh presenting together this afternoon, which I think is the first time 2 females have presented together (except for unscheduled breaking news simulcasts) since the move to NBH.
