Always interesting to see who is covering reporting shifts over the festive period. BBC Nations & Regions reporter Emily Unia is covering George Michael's death, while BBC World News producer Sophia Tran-Thomson (formerly of ABC Australia) is reporting on the Russian plane crash.

How odd that he's sat as if awaiting a co-presenter!

Nice to see the NC are finally making bulletins on BBC One a bit less awkward for itself - previously you'd have the NC presenter on the catwalk announcing that 'in a moment so and so will have a full round up of the day's news', before the filler countdown, the BBC One bulletin, some promos or something, and then an eventual return to the NC presenter back at the desk. Not only was it slicker by having the BBC One bulletin at 12:30, meaning there was a just a little bit of filler countdown after the weather, but as the BBC One presenter has just been the duty NC presenter the past few days, once BBC One had left the presenter just carried on.

Has Richard Lister ever presented anything before?

Yes, back in 2001 he presented BBC News specials from the Washington studio each evening in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks. I think it was broadcast at around 9pm each evening and a variety of presenters did it on rotation for a few months, e.g. Gavin Esler, Nik Gowing and Richard Lister are the ones that I can remember.

It would be nice to see him as relief on the main BBC 1 bulletins or even the news channel, he seems to be a very good news presenter in my opinion, I'm sure it seen him host on the news channel once or twice, around early noughties, 2004/05.

Always interesting to see who's presenting such bulletins at this time of year. Has breakfast been airing over Christmas.

He's very Gavin Grey in his presentational approach.

It shows the versatility of the reporting team that even at short notice they're able to stand in as a presenter.

Must have been a few weeks ago - he does appear infrequently still as a relief presenter. Hopefully he doesn't just vanish without saying farewell if he does leave the channel.

Since he hasn't made any appearances since this post and last appeared on 21st August, its looking likely he has sadly left. Shame if he has indeed left without a farewell, although maybe like John Stapleton he didn't want a big fanfare.

He has spent nearly decade at BBC News now and has a had his fair share of relief presenting, i seem to remember him filling in on breakfast on a Friday morning alongside Naga Munchetty back in 2011/12 and was great IMO, he should've been approached as the replacement for Bill back in February.

He was also great on ITV news too.
