Lukwesa Burak is covering again today and
she'll be covering the BBC One bulletin at lunchtime too.
It does always strike me as odd that among all the budget cuts they've never thought to have the NC presenter do the evening and late bulletins on weekends - especially considering it's not a problem at lunchtime.
No she didn't.
Carole Walker presented Dateline London and the midday news on BBC One.
They've brought in Carole Walker for the lunchtime bulletin instead. How odd....
But is it really?
Dateline is normally presented by a relatively senior BBC journalist, as indeed are the BBC network bulletins, rather than someone who is new to the organisation (irrespective of their pre-BBC pedigree).

I did edit my original post after realising Carole Walker had presented Dateline London which makes more sense. I'd agree normally, except that bulletin is normally covered by whoever is the on duty NC presenter. Relief presenters like Rachel Schofield, Fiona Armstrong, Sophie Long, Adam Parsons and plenty of others have covered the bulletin - they would never be seen on a weekday or weekend evening bulletin.
They didn't have a wide shot at the start and opened with the 'on location/out of time with the music' titles.
At the end they probably realised that such a thing as closing titles don't actually exist at had to do a wide shot.
Shame it wasn't Steph on duty, or Naga, or Ben, as I'm guessing Christian has possibly done a BBC One bulletin before on a weekend lunchtime at some point perhaps.

I wish they'd remove the foreground "swooshes" from the CGI newsroom backdrops used on Nationals from Salford, as they ceased to be "on-brand" quite some time ago.
Looks like the three "windows" in that closing wideshot were showing literally the same one-screen's-worth of backdrop, three times over. Given that Nationals from Salford would usually only ever come from the small "NWT breakfast bulletins" studio, there clearly isn't a wider version of that particular backdrop in existence.
The angle of that closing wideshot (i.e. avoiding letting the "side window" into shot) was clearly chosen so as to avoid the nonsensical sight of the perpendicular part of the "view" being somehow the same layout/angle as what was across the back wall.
Was Breakfast in that studio or was it in the Sport studio still? Seems a bit daft to staff both studios for that sort programme, especially when Studio E was on air on the News Channel.
Or has the Olympic Breakfast setup used both galleries?

Breakfast was in the sport studio, they're back in the usual studio tomorrow. I was surprised they didn't use the usual clip studio to be honest.
I'm pretty sure the autocue was being fed from NBH as usual, the bulletin had the same format as it does during Andrew Marr and there was no script in sight in the studio.
