There is flexibility for Newsround staffers to work on other projects. Jenny Lawrence last year did some reporting and producing for Breakfast last year. Even when NR was at TVC, there was a point where Ellie Crisell worked on NR and the NC and worked on cross projects for NR and BBC News.
I think Leah Boleto has also been on Breakfast to promote NR features.
Martine Croxall presenting the BBC1 bulletins this evening.
I wonder if this is going to be a permanent arrangement to save money, have the late shift NC presenter do the evening network bulletins at weekends? Although no doubt it'll be a case of someone running late/not turning up.
Also nice to see Martine on BBC1! Certainly one of the stronger female presenters on the NC.
This must be a last minute change, getting Martine and Emily to cover tonight for presenter that must have been scheduled. I think it could've been Ben Brown but he's now on a last minute assignment to Brussels
Got to be the first time Emily's presented a Saturday network bulletin since about 2007, right?! I know she did Sundays regularly and presented the One/Six/Ten occasionally up to about 2013.
I suspect Emily Maitlis' involvement tonight is regarded as fortuitious bearing in mind the late breaking IDS resignation last night and the fallout. A senior presenter being handy in case of the need for live studio based in bulletin interviews.
What? Ending early and going to a recording of Newsnight - when did this start to happen? Is this now a regular thing or just a one-off? If I wanted to watch Newsnight, I would have switched to BBC2 at 10.30. Presumably the BBC will argue that this allows those who don't want to miss the Papers the ability to watch Newsnight (even though one edition of the Papers appears to have been discontinued to make way for the repeat). This is now an additional time where I have to switch to Sky News for either UK news or, in this case, live news.

Fortuitous for the BBC that they've got teams in Brussels from the breaking news on Friday as the city went into lockdown, obviously now though the story is more serious so changing staff round a bit.
Is there a reason Katty Kay is in London at the moment?

Yes, one of the first BBC location reports to come in was from their political correspondent Ben Wright who was in the vicinity of the airport. The same could also be said for Stephen Sackur who happened to be at a press conference almost opposite the Metro station that was targetted. It was good to see Stephen reporting on the News channel for a change, UK viewers only really get to see him presenting Hard Talk.
I have to say though the most interesting piece to come in was from Sky News, Alex Rossi and his team who must have been the first team to send back any form of live pictures literally moments after the airport attack. Talk about being in the right place at the right time (from a journalistic angle anyway).
